[Welp] "Llull Untouchable" 2021 Contract extension upped buyout to $13.5m

    "Llull Untouchable: $12m EUR Shielding him from Rockets"​

    As Clutch reported on July 6th, Rockets chose not to go after Llull. Turns out, it was because he signed an extension until 2021 with a much larger buyout.

    First reported July 6th at marca.com, The contract extension is until 2021, but on top of that, @Vivi just found out in an article today that the extension also upped his buyout to USD $13.5m from USD $7m.

    Signing 5 year extension with Real Madrid wasn't obvious enough that he doesn't plan to play in NBA? At this point I think he's either trolling Morey or Morey has lost some screws.

    Morey wouldn't continue to pursue Llull if he did not think he could make the financials work. That's what we need to read into. So, I don't deem Llull untouchable by any stretch.

    But Morey isn't pursuing him anymore. He stopped with that July, 6th extension and buyout increase. Clutch only reported they stopped pursuing him, and now we know why.

    Any other info like Stein seems bogus for lacking new knowledge of this hugely increased buyout.

    Not to mention the commitment signing such a buyout demonstrates. Why increase the difficulty of paying your buyout by increasing it that much, if you actually have any intention to be less than untouchable

    "anymore" or "not this year."

    I don't see anywhere where Morey "isn't pursuing him." In fact, Morey takes every opportunity on twitter to give him dap.

    I'm just asking this cause yeah, why not...but, what kind of contract would be needed to make this work at this point? And is it possible that a buyout or a part of it can be somehow waived with a clause or something?

    My guess is when Clutch reported that the Rockets would "not pursue Llull this year" it was an indication that Morey had settled on another plan with his FA money. Which we see now is Anderson/Gordon/Nene/+Harden extension. Once Morey knew he was going this route, he knew he had to change course with Llull "this year." But how about "next year." Morey clearly is still interested.

    I was thinking the same, and that's why i thought about those questions on the buyout, but i wonder if we're just reading to much into those tweets...
