3 Things: 1) The Summit was loud when the game was on the line. 2) Those jerseys are bad@ss 3) MadMax was a bad@ss
i remember his tenacious defense and ability to make off balance game winning shots from anywhere on the court. still have his jersey!
When he was on, he was something to watch. I've never seen someone score out of pure spite before, but it seemed he always played his best when he was a bit testy. And, man, was he quick. And yes, those uniforms were bad@ss.
Got any highlights of game 3 against phx in the '94 playoffs where he was on fire?? would love to see that
I found a love that I had lost It was gone for too long Hear no evil in all directions Execution of bitterness Message received loud and clear Don't change for you Don't change a thing for me Don't change for you Don't change a thing for me
Turned Choke City into Clutch City against Phoenix in the playoffs and scored 21 pts, including the backbreaking 3, in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to give Houston its very first championship in any major sport.
This. Dude's a loser and a quitter. Yes, obviously I still loved him when he helped us win the first championship.
you must be talking about another Rocket. Maxwell's a champion, a member of the legendary Clutch City, the first team to bring glory to the the Rockets. Heroes til the end of time.
I understand where you're coming from, but for me, what he did prior to that far eclipsed all the crap. Vernon is such a mercurial soul with a raging "fire" that cuts both ways. At his best it combined with his otherworldly athletic ability/above average talent ... making it possible for him to take over games offensively (in half and full court) or shut down MJ. When he took it as a personal challenge ...forget about it...and he transformed into a leader. I can separate his on the court Houston heroics and any possible moral dilemma regarding off the court issues. Things went down as they were supposed to.We don't sniff that first title without Mad Max ....and Dream and Clyde take care of business for the second. Anyway, Vernon is forever a part of Houston lore as he helped bring us something we Houstonians had been waiting for, for many years.
And the ONLY ROCKET to ever score 30 points in one quarter. It's like a Lamborgini Diablo, one person sees it and thinks about how many miles per hour while the other thinks about miles per gallon And you are right. VERNON IS FOREVER

So called Rocket fans who choose to ignore Maxwell's part in Rocket's lore are the same people who think INXS is better without Michael Hutchence. these people tend to mystify me , maxwell was heaven sent while these people have the devil inside their minds he gave you what you need a championship a new sensation for the city
I enjoyed watching this not so much for Maxwell but for the memories. I'd forgot about some of the players that were out there..Wood, Winchester, Buck Johnson... I used to watch just about every game back then so this brought back some memories. I believe Kenny Smith had a 50 point game as a Rocket too.
No, Kenny never had a 50 point game. his highest was 41 http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199312260LAL.html
