Maybe he can completely rehaul the club level making it bigger and fancier (with "fine cuisine") and target these "high end" expensive seats to corporations whilst opening up the lower bowl to more rabid fans.

You won't completely open the lower level but maybe this type of promotion/advertising opens up half the sideline seats.

Also, you could make the seats behind both goalposts non corporate as well and lead to more rabid fans yelling at feee throws

I wouldn't be too tied down to his listed net worth on Forbes web site.

They have a bunch of disclaimers on there that is only goes by what they have available to them.

I wouldn't speculate that he is substantially higher than what it says there, but that 77% or whatever it was should not be taken as fact.

Take out the word "good" and you'll hit closer to the mark.

Actually, and I could be wrong, the Astros have a decent following. But that observation might be skewed by their recent success.

Yea this is a good idea. Have sectioned off corporate zones that have access to some kind of special dining area that makes them feel exclusive, but open up those lower zones closest to the court for some people that will get rowdy.

I disagree. Houston is at its best when it has to come together. It’s a big city, a melting pot, and an international hub for business. I think Houstonians always support the teams but often times life is full. But when Houston teams do well and play when it matters, Houston has always showed up. It may sound bandwagonish, but it is what it is. Successful teams get in the local press more, houstonians becomes unified.

There is no better sound than the roar of a Houston playoff crowd. In any sport. And it only gets crazier the deeper the team goes.

I was hoping to hear more than this. Like Tilman cried, then he ran out of the building at full speed and headed for Austin Street. He ran northeast on Austin Street screaming "yahoooooo" repeatedly. He stopped running when he came upon Buffalo Bayou and belly flopped in the body of water there. He continued to swim the backstroke while yelling to anyone that would listen that he owned "the greatest franchise in all of sports".

Compared to cities elsewhere in the south, it's comparable. It's certainly no worse than Atlanta or Tampa or Phoenix....and its sheer size makes it attractive for owners considering franchise value. Our NBA team just sold for $2.2 billion.

I think fertitta will be good but I dont like that it is now a family team. Rich kids who inherit teams dont have good track records compared to self made men who bought teams.

This is true of nearly every city in the country....the exception being in cases where there's a new team in a market or a team that's been around for 100 or more years and are institutional within their communities from generation to generation. Most cities support winners and don't bother paying for losers.

I promise you, none of the local owners are looking at other markets around the country that don't have teams and fantasizing about how great it would be. Franchise values here are high.

In celebration of the Rockets being owned by a Houston Family:

More photos of the Rockets First Family

And here, Blayne wearing the How Bout Them Cougs t-shirt. She also was the only one in Red at the press conference, aside from Tilman's red tie.

That’s a different convo though. Does spending money equate to being a good sports town? There’s a different vibe to the city when a Houston team has momentum.

If we’re talking ticket sales, i don’t think we take into account the logistics of commute in this city. A lot of people commute to work. And get off around 5. Games are at 7. There’s a decision to be made now. Attend a game you’ll probably miss part of, ends late, and drive the long commute home to wind down and get ready for bed only to wake up for another commute a few hours later ... or just go home and watch the game on tv. Which is probably a more spacious place than other sports cities in the country.

Also take a look at the bars when a team catches fire here. They’re filled and rowdy. In town, suburbs, everywhere. Houstonians just want to grab a beer and cheer with friends. The good old boy mentality is to not spend $15 on a beer. Just go to the bar and get the same experience. There’s a passion for sports in Houston. Yes you could probably say the same for other cities, but I’m saying Houston is definitely a sports city.
