For a team that relies so much on the 3 point shot, the Rockets really do not have any shooters.

They have a collection of guys who can kinda shoot a little bit. Almost all of their percentages are in the low 30's.

Let's compare the players who took 3's last year (and played a good bit) to this year:

    2012:

    Harden .370
    Parsons .385
    Lin .339
    Delfino .375
    Patterson .386
    Morris .370
    Douglas .380
    Beverley .375
    Garcia .374

Last year, Lin was the only player shooting below 37%

    2013:

    Harden .310
    Parsons .412
    Lin .375
    Beverley .340
    Jones .333
    Casspi .378
    Garcia .349

This year, only 3 players are shooting 37% or better. And one of them (Lin) has missed several games.

In fact... of those players this year who are not shooting at least 37%, all of them are below 35%.

    What's the deal?

A team that relies so heavily on the 3 cannot shoot this poorly if they want to win.

Dwight Howard. If he's on with this ISOs, he's never going to pass the ball to the shooters. The shooters then can never get into a rhythm.

Do opposing teams know that all we practice are 3's and layup drills? Maybe offensive diversity is a good thing.

It is the half court sets. We shoot better as a team on the go

They have no game plan, which is the reason behind good 3pt %.

That's not totally true. When Dwight sees a double team coming and he sees someone is open, he will pass the ball. Haven't you watched the games?

SHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Maybe they'll forget about our offensive strategy and stop running us off of the 3-point line.

Fewer wide-open transition threes this year? Teams in the half court defending the three better also?

    Howard.

The offense has been slowed down to Howard's pace.
Howard does not pass to open shooters.
Harden drives less and kicks out less because Howard is in the middle.
Beverley is really a bad PG. He cannot create anything.

Rockets won't make the playoffs if there is no drastic change.

    We have no structure.

All we do is iso PNR iso PNR fastbreak. Im starting to miss the Rick Adelman Princeton offense.

Food for though...would TWill have thrived in this system? He was good, but he was horrible at learning playbooks.

We shoot a ton of 3s and our players are encouraged to do so often and early. Plus, opposing teams knows this and defend accordingly. Its not surprising our shooting % isn't good.

We'll always be a streaky team with this style of play. To compound the issue, we don't defensive rebound well. So, us winning or losing pretty much comes down to whether we or the opponent has a better shooting game.

We are taking forced three pointers, contested ones because we have no great inside-out game which causes us not to shoot well. You saw the Pacers, they passed so easily and three point shots were taken in the flow of the game. Even when we make our threes, they never seem to come easy for us.

If you actually watch the Rockets play you can tell that they should win every game but there is something mentally wrong that is making them second guess everything that they are doing and they turn the ball over A LOT. They miss wide open shots and make stupid plays. I have to say that I don't want to say Mchale should be fired but the team ALWAYS look unprepared like they just woke up. That problem usually falls on the coach.

I thought this was apparent since the start of the season. We have scorers and guys who can kind of shoot, so they get hot sometimes. We don't have one pure shooter on this team. I thought it was just the best Morey could do, given the money available, FAs left, and the fact that this team still had to prove it could fit together and have a shot at being a contender.

We're going to have to pick up one or two Mike Miller's or Kyle Korvers to get over the hump the next few years. Canaan can shoot, but he's to raw to get significant minutes soon, unless Howard and Harden can become a better one two punch and not depend so much on the other three guys.

Just wondering if there's stats to how many 3s were uncontested last year vs this year
