A deep playoff run is irrelevant to draft position. Final standings is all that matters. Mavs are 3 games out of giving us that pick this season.
bimathug tweeted that it would only cost rockets 153k if fish does not pick up his player option but unlikelyh most likely he will be bought out (i hope)

Of course, first round picks come with guaranteed contracts. Having a lot of them could cause problems with financial flexilbility.
While I hate getting Fish, getting this pick was a good move. Often, these deals end up morphing to a couple of second rounders over time, so the fact that this will eventually become unprotected (should we all live to see it), makes it far more valuable to the Rockets, and adds real value to the pick as a trade chip. Nice thread, CH. -
Aside from Portland, yea they have a tough schedule. Not only that, we have to play them 3 more times by season's end.
haha, it is kind of hard to be a rockets fan, we have to root for two other teams to either win or lose from time to time.
This is the info on our other picks for the next few years (correct me if I'm wrong): 2012: -Rockets' first rounder (owed to Nets, top-14 protected through 2016, or becomes 2017 second rounder + cash) -Knicks' first rounder (top-5 protected through 2015, or becomes 2015/2016 second rounders) -Mavericks' first rounder via LA (top-20 protected through 2017, unprotected in 2018) -Rockets' second rounder (owed to Pistons, top-40 protected in 2012, top-35 protected in 2013/2014, unprotected in 2015 OR owed to Timberwolves if 31-40) -Timberwolves' second rounder (owed to the Blazers [there was talk earlier about this being conditional but I couldn't find any confirmation about that], goes back to Minnesota if 56-60, which obviously won't happen) 2013: -Rockets' first rounder -Grizzlies' first rounder (owed to Minnesota, top-14 protected through 2016, or becomes 2016 second rounder + cash) -Rockets' second rounder (owed to Hawks, top-40 protected through 2015, unprotected in 2016... does not occur until one year after the pick we owe the Pistons is conveyed) 2014: -Rockets' first rounder -Rockets' second rounder 2015: -Rockets' first rounder -Rockets' second rounder -Clippers' second rounder via Raptors (only if 51-55) So overall we will most likely have NY and Dallas first rounders this year (and give up our own), have no second rounders this year, have only our own first rounder next year with no second rounder, and everything resets to normal in 2014.
So, does it bother anyone that we now have some incentives to cheer for the Mavs just a little for the sake of getting the pick this year rather than later? I don't want them to get too good, just a little better than they are now. Then again, maybe we should just cheer for them to fail for 6 more years so we get a high 2018 pick? Man, Morey makes our rooting interest complicated.
