Winston was solid... but I knew when he signed his contract, he would eventually end up as this sort of casualty. He signed an overvalued contract at the time... and now when he may be getting close to "earning it", the team can no longer afford him.

The Texans will be fine... but it's sad to see them cut guys who obviously love being here and are above average players.

This is what happens to all teams that become playoff contenders. You can't keep everyone, just hope our staff knows what they're doing.

I just realized Rashad Butler is on IR, not released, so I feel slightly better about this now.

OL depth is a concern now, but other posters are right, this is the price of success.

I am just genuinely disappointed for Winston because he was really a team guy and very much wanted to be a part of the Texans' playoff success (at least he got one win).

Sign Myers and Briesel, cut JaGoofy and Leinart (replace them with Delhomme and somebody who can return kicks like Eddie Royal or Dante Stallworth)... and if you can't resign Mario, make sure you get Dressen, Ward, and Allen back on the roster. They all earned their spots and give us quality depth.

Rumor has it that the Bears are going to land Mario. I posted the link in the other thread. At this point though, who knows?

If we're intent on replacing him via the draft, I'd rather it be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Our track record of drafting o-linemen hasn't been stellar. But Winston was a 3rd round pick as was Charles Spencer (he was good before he broke his leg). Brown was obviously a first rounder that paid off. I'd expect that Butler will take his place and any OT' s drafted will be for depth.

Wow just wow...I know you can't keep everyone but I hope we see Mario resigned or a Mike Wallace brought in or at the least a big extension for Duane Brown.

Cut Jacoby, Walter, Ryans, Leinart. Re-sign Myers, Briesel and Mario.

    R1 WR
    R2 RT
    R3 LB
    R4 OL
    R5 WR

If Jacoby Jones is on this roster come July at more than league minimum I am going to lose all faith in this front office.

Damn, just like that out of the blue. He was a great RT, so this had to be a cap saving move. Got to hand it to the FO, they are not afraid to shake things up anymore.

we need a better capologist. no way we should be having all these issues getting under the cap when we only have one playoff appearance.

I liked how the pr director for the texans called the radio to say nothing has been made official with this tragic end to winston. the man was like our ambassador. NFL network needed a piece, hey call Eric.

But it's the nfl, not personal just business. They just wacked my favorite linemen not named Brown.

I think the lockout had something to do with this.

We're tight on the cap because of a lot of contracts we handed out before the new CBA came into being.

I don't get it either. Last year, Eagles assemble the "Dream Team" and have no problem doing so. Vince Young, Ronnie Brown, Steve Smith, Evan Mathis, Jason Babin, Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, extended Mike Vick iirc, maybe a few others [signed].

It was just semantics with the Texans PR guy. "We've sent nothing into the league or nothing is official." Yeah, just like Andre Johnson's contract wasn't restructured, ha. :p

Texans only have 2 starters(from the line) returning/locked up. Although, I think Myers will be back(then again, maybe not), maybe Brisiel too. Butler at RT. Still think Mario is gone.

This system produces good offensive linemen. I am a firm believer in this. I think Rashad Butler played well when Duane Brown was suspended in 2010. I know the team is also high on Derek Newton. I personally think Winston was a good run blocker but an average pass blocker. Had numerous holding calls and sacks given up last year. It sucks to lose him but you can’t keep everybody. Walter should be the next one to go.

If I had to choose between the two, yeah I would probably keep Jacoby. He is younger and I believe makes less money. Neither are what I want in a 2nd receiver though.

They both make 3.5 million this year.

Jacoby goes up to 4.5 million next year.

Jacoby doesn't block, can't catch for s***, and is about as clutch as Nick Anderson at the free throw line.

Walter is great in the run game, catches everything that comes near him, and has more than 2 brain cells to rub together.

    Cut Jachokey. Keep Walter.
