Strong pro-lifer, coming out in favor of quackery that literally kills infants. Great.

This is embarrassing and really not defensible. This guy needs to be ejected from Congress and the party.

It's one thing when some airhead like Jenny McCarthy is anti-vaccine.

It's another thing entirely when people who run this country are.

Wow: I'm a little bit surprised, because it's more commonly the extreme left that goes unhinged about vaccines, fluoride in the water supply, GMO in the food supply, etc. It's kind of a hippy value pack of dumb (or at least, value pack of anti-scientific evidence.)

your first thought should be why are politicians conducting scientific inquiries to begin with?

There are no words to properly describe this level of stupidity.

This stuff needs to die. Unfortunately, parents get so invested in the idea of preventing ASD that it never will. How do you come to grips that likely, a part of your genetic makeup was a determining factor in the acquisition of a disorder a pervasive as autism?

As for chelation that's just bs. When I was working in Boise at a clinic for kids with developmental disabilities there was a place on the Oregon/Idaho border where you could take your kid and they would stick a needle in him and get rid of all the heavy metals. As a parent I get the desperation you can feel when your child isn't well. You've got to be smart.

You want science to shape policy where it's relevant. But you want the experts to be genuine experts.

blind faith in scientific authority (especially government agencies) is also anti-science

it's how we got the food guide pyramid and were told to replace saturated fat with sugar

Because government public health programs and mandatory vaccinations, screenings are responsible for removing diseases like polio, smallpox, etc and saving hundreds of millions of lives and trillions of dollars.

A scientific authority, by definition, requires they show results and evidence that are replicable.

So, if it's "blind faith" this authority requires, it isn't scientific.

    scientific authority = "blind faith"
"the free market" = rational and supported by evidence.

Agree, Was just about to say.. you don't need blind faith when it comes to science. Blind faith is what you use when you don't have any logical or scientific explanation to explain a particular topic.

It's also why your kids don't have polio and smallpox.

What does it take to kick someone out of a party or congress anyway?
