my sense of it, is that at 16 White was a reasonable gamble to get an elite player with a major issue.. a better gamble than the other players available at that point..
Morey is just rationalizing at this point so as not to look absolutely incompetent drafting a known problem child. He knows he made a mistake. He's just not revealing that he knows so. It's all damage control at this point and looking towards salvaging whatever possible value they can get out of the situation.
His position was a very reasonable one and made a lot of sense. Your position however makes little sense and draws huge assumptions on something you have little information on.
