[SI] P3: Assessing injuries before they happen

    I'd like to ask the mods to keep this in the GARM, for 3 reasons:

    1. Howard trained at P3 this summer.
    2. Every time there's an injury, people claim it's our staff and wish we had Phoenix's.
    3. I think the Rockets are starting to shift more into this direction because of reason #1 and the guy they had training their staff this summer. Although he's not with P3, his focus is also correcting biomechanics :

    I wouldn't be surprised to see them send more of their players over there next summer. Their practice goal inside the weight room is already fitted with pressure sensors and 3D cameras for motion analysis.

    Were they able to foresee Dwight's knee issues?

    We should send all our players there for assessment if we're not already doing so at the TC.

    For those that are curious, the player "Clark", I'm guessing, is Bradley Beal. The description fits and i believe this is a picture of him at their center, dated 11/2013:

    I'm sure they noticed some stuff, but like the article states, it's hard to get info released, so I'm not sure what exactly. The Rockets noticed some imbalances, when he signed here, so I'm sure they have been working on it. However, how fast you can correct this greatly depends on how long and in what way a player has been moving incorrectly. It's not a guaranteed one session, or even one summer, fix.

    Of course, it's always possible Dwight's issue was just an accident too. Hard to tell, without knowing if, and what, one play caused it.

    I don't want to make too much out of a short clip, since it's just one assessment of many, but notice how Dwight's legs move compared to Teague's?

    That's the kind of stuff they're looking into.

    Maybe Dwight needs to lose some weight to ease the pressure on his knees. His shoulder area also looks massive compared to his lower body.

    Marc Gasol cut down his weight for this season IIRC. Hopefully we can prolong Dwight's effectivity.

    Another candidate should be PatBev, so his hamstring injury doesn't keep recurring.

    One thing I've learned is that the biggest reason for lower back pain is, when you try to move your limbs the lower back seems to react because it's too mobile.

    Watching the Dwight vs Teague clip. I see that Dwight's lower back area seems to move first. It's just a slight twitch to his right and then the rest of him seems to move right. Teague moves basically in one whole movement. Again, it could have been a fluke rep, but it's interesting to see the comparison. That could be what leads Dwight's legs to almost cross on his rep, while Teague's don't even come close.

    Going back to the Dwight vs Teague video comparison...there's a part in this second article where it states

    I wasn't 100% sure earlier, if Teague's clip was chosen because it was a very good example. There was a chance there was something I wasn't seeing, which was also wrong, but different, than Dwight's. This quote proves it was because it was the ideal way to move though and, IMO, further proves Dwight's example was problematic.

    I'm bumping this because I'm shocked there was nearly zero reaction to what I pointed out about Dwight. Lots of questions about his play in the board lately..well, this is likely the reason. Although I imagine P3-worked with him on this, it's not going to disappear in a few weeks of work and likely had already caused damage to his knee.
