That dude is way calmer than I would have been after fighting a seven or eight foot (my guess) shark.
looks more like it was caught in the leash and as scared as the surfer was, just thrashing to get away. scary stuff regardless. lucky lucky man.
I'm glad the shark, for whatever reason, decided not to pursue the surfer further. Surfer really kept his composure well. Pretty sure I wouldn't have done as well!
I guess that is a first in a surf contest? Scary stuff. He could have easily lost his leg and/or life. That is one lucky guy and he knows it. Now, it's all mental. The monster came out from under the bed.
That was awesome! But Mr. Surfer, please get all the way onto the safety boat and don't just lay there on the end where the shark(s) can come get you again! Love that Shark week just ended. This will add some insanity to the next Shark week.
One of the crazier things I've seen that has aired on live tv. I mean, I didn't see it live, but you get my point.
Wow! Glad the guy is OK. Talk about a scary situation. A hair short of experiencing the worst nightmare about swimming in the ocean. Damn, I'm glad Lake Travis finally filled up. Of course, I've been swimming in the ocean for over a week now at Isla Mujeres. Haven't seen a shark snorkling. Maybe I'll have dinner on the beach this evening, instead of possibly being dinner. Geez! Nice find, Commodore.
It didn't get that close to the guy for funzies. That shark was trying to see if that was a snack worth noming on. He's just damn lucky the leash caught it before it had a chance to make up its mind.
The thing that amazed my watching it was Julian Wilson heading straight over to Fanning to help, there was no regard for his own safety at all. Fanning is very lucky there. Both guys know just how lucky they got and to see the emotion from both of them afterwards was something you won't see too often on live tv.
The new interviews really show true emotion -- the horror of being attacked by a wild animal is truly next level stuff. I believe he said something along the lines of 'I can never surf professionally again'.
You're more likely to be killed by a food allergy or not knowing how to swim, or by bees or lightning, or falling off of a ladder than you are by a shark. Did yall hear about the guy that went swimming in Orange, TX after dark and he got eaten by a 11' alligator? Unfortunately they did have to kill the gator a few days after they found some of his body. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/new...first-in-two-6365674.php?t=9ef44780778b7034ef
Those you're more likely to stats, do they account for the particular activity you are currently engaged in? For instance on my couch watching shark week vs on a surf board in known great white hunting areas... gotta think one of these two is accounting for an ungodly amount of the more likely to statistic. Sharks scare me.
