This probably means we didn't want him all too much. Morey coulda topped that easy.

That was such a dumb move by the Magic, they could have gotten so much more for Oladipo and Sabonis and they were a rebuilding team, it just made no sense.

I don't know if they could have gotten better for Ibaka...but Toronto wins this deal big time.

Man, the market for Ibaka was bone dry apparently. A low first round pick, and a decent rotation player?

Ibaka wants to get paid, and I don't think many teams thought he was worth what he's gonna demand. He's not a max player, and if you aren't gonna max him out, you kind of lose your home field advantage when it comes to free agency. Not being able to resign him had to be the big issue.

why? this is a team in the East. we don't need to give up assets for what could be a 33 year old rental?

    minor moves please.

    Toronto needs wing depth now.

Brewer for Patterson straight up works

    why?
Ross with Fournier can man the wings while Gordon goes back to his natural pf position. Works just fine like that.

It makes sense for the Raptors to resign him at any price. Their core is locked in now so it makes a ton of sense for them, this is their team for better or worse for the next few years now.

Morey and Harden I think both said recently they are happy with the team they have now. I knew we were not getting Ibaka and this could be the first trade deadline where Morey makes 0 moves.

No trade will make the Rockets better than the Cavs, Warriors or Spurs.

I'm on the other side of this: because Ibaka is basically a 3 month rental, his price tag around the league can't have been that high. Ross and a 1st must have been far and away better than any offers they were fielding for Orlando to deal him away this early.

Toronto is 4-10 in its last 14. This is coming across as a desperation move on their side. They know Cleveland is weak, and in general the top of the East is as weak as it's been since probably the Kidd Nets days (just before the rise of the Pistons). They feel like the Wizards and Celtics are paper tigers given their disproportionate record compared to their point differential. They can feel their window rapidly opening and closing, and this is a move to try to keep it there, for at least one postseason.

With the Rockets, we have three useful rotation players on rookie scale contracts. You can't understate just how valuable this is in the new CBA climate. Capela, Dekker, and Harrell all have their best days ahead of them performance-wise, and so long as their contracts are low, they are just about the most valuable asset you can own aside from a lottery-bound draft pick or a superstar performing at a level above that of his contract.

I think it's a good deal for both teams in retrospect. Orlando should have never traded for him to begin with. But current value is what it is. I'm sure Toronto wanted to keep Ross over Patterson but it takes two to tango.

    Give Toronto a B and Orlando a B-

Credit to Toronto for keeping the higher of the 2 picks in the 1st rd, sneaky move that could end up paying off in the long run.
