Parsons would have given the Rockets about 10 extra points today....

......but then Lebron would have scored 55+ and would have had several more assists and we would have lost the game.

Yeah, Ariza scored only 4 points, but he took away a lot of points from the Cavs.

If only we had this kind of perimeter defense against the Blazers last year.

IMO, it is more important to make life miserable for the opposing team's #1 option and creator than to get those 5-10 extra points on offense yourself.

Again, worth repeating, a slightly better role player on offense gives you a few extra points but a hindered Lebron means the entire Cavs offense gets hurt and entire team loses on plenty of good looks and points.

In a playoff match-up, the first thing I always look at is if a team has a defensive player that can make life miserable for the other team's #1 option. If they do then they have an advantage for the reasons I mentioned.

The same goes for us btw. Since we do not have another perimeter playmaker, this is what Harden and Rockets will face every playoff game in which the other team can throw a good perimeter defender at him.

    Parsons is long gone.

and we are a much better team for it. Case closed. No need for threads about it.

May as well create a thread saying 'harden is worth the max'

I thought about that too after the regulation. If we had Parsons in the game on LeBron, we probably would have to double LeBron, otherwise he would have just overpowered Parsons by going to the rim.

Ariza's defense is way too good for anyone to complain about his offense.

People are poking fun at OP for acknowledging the obvious, but with how much flack Ariza has gotten lately, the point made here is worth reminding to the board. Yeah, we lost some offense from Parsons leaving, and lost a create-your-own offense guy at the wing, but our defense is infinitely better because of the swap. Meanwhile, we re-stacked on create-your-own-offense guys with the emergence of D-Mo, as well has J-Smoove's play making abilities. Pundits that had the Rockets outside the playoffs because of the loss of Parsons are looking pretty dang silly right now.

Ariza played a great game today. Great defense, active on the boards. Sure, didn't do much offensively, but with the way he played defense today I would take that easily.

Ariza's man to man D is impeccable, no doubt. His IQ in playing passing lanes is irreplaceable.

Parsons is sub par in both categories.

Smith, Brewer, Ariza for the price of Parsons. More than worth it.

Ariza remains our unsung hero. He had been shooting well prior to this game, but he had to spend a lot of energy in guarding one of the best forwards of all time. I am confident his shot will be back soon.

Parsons would've allowed Lebron to make that last shot in regulation to beat the Rockets if he was on Lebron. Thank goodness for Ariza.
