I am not really sure what you are trying to say here. Do you mean we have all we need, because we have Canaan? Or the opposite? Our PG position is simply a question mark right now. Beverly is set. Johnson shows a lot of promise and Canaan has a real intriguing skill set. But both are basically unknowns, they could work out, Johnson could be the next Parsons as a second round pick that starts his first season - or both could be huge liablilities. But I would agree that it doesn't make too much sense to add another PG if he doesn't have star potential (Bledsoe, Dragic, Rondo). Our holes at PF and backup C are too big for that, and we have talent at PG (plus Harden can play some PG as well as Daniels).
I like him and all, but he is a HUGE question mark going into the season since he didn't play very much last year. He could be a big surprise or a bigger disappointment. It could go either way. They're definitely going to need to bring in a veteran PG no matter what.
how is it a huge overpay if its only 2m more per year? . if he'll sign for cheaper then of course do it
Because he isn't a 5 million per year player anymore. A guy younger than him coming off a better year took 3 million per.
Canaan still has work to do, but he looked more prepared than I thought he would be in his first NBA action, especially defensively. You can tell Bev's style of defense really rubbed off on Canaan. Canaan's not as good yet, but he's not completely lost and wide-eyed either. His ball handling is what he has to show more of. He hasn't been pressed yet. We'll see.
Isn't Billups a FA ? Leadership, plenty of experience, tough defense and a very decent outside shot ...
I saw Canaan extremely weak defensively last season... I doubt he can improve enough in an offseason to become a winning backup PG.
