Not knowing a whole lot about Asik, I've been watching some Youtube clips to get a little idea about his game. One thing that's stood out is the fact that everytime he dunks, he has to lift his legs 5' in the air and act like he's trying to break the backboard, and hold onto the rim an extra second when he could be getting back on D. Is there something else I'm missing here/should I be reserving judgment, or is this guy really that caught up with himself and his dunks? He looks like a solid addition for the Rockets, don't get me wrong, but I'm not real big on the showoff dunk thing if that's what it is--especially when the time he's hanging on the rim could be used to get back down the court to defend...

Could be just a message: "If you're under the basket when I dunk, you're gonna get balls in your face!" From the highlight clip, it seems other players get the message.
So you're worried about Asik not getting back on defense after dunking, are you? He averages 2 shots a game at about 12 minutes a game. Total 6 shots per 36 minutes. I doubt they're all dunks, but let's just say they are. He spends less than a second hanging per dunk in those dunks from video. I don't currently have metrics on his defense, but from what I understand he's known as a hustle well-above average defender. Some have compared him to what we had with Camby. Which means that he's dedicated all but less than 6 seconds of his 36 minutes on the floor to total defense as a would-be starter. I'm ok with that. If we were talking about someone like a Kevin Martin or a Carmelo Anthony, I'd say that this is a relevant concern. But since we're talking about a known defensive presence spending so little time hanging on the rim, I'm not worried.
you mean like this? <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/onn7qXOq2_s?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Here is my explanation. Do you see how opponents move away from him? It's because they know he dunks that hard every time and they don't want to eat a leg. It's the same reason Shaq used to dunk hard, so opponents would think twice about blocking him instead of trying to block him everytime. It's a good strategy.
Hey if he just dunked a score I'm all in. Instead of those lazy layups some of our bigs have watched roll out the other side. lol.
