I'm not real comfortable with the OL. Depth is needed badly, it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if the rd 1-2 picks were Robinson/Ram/Bolles in rd 1 and Dawkins in rd 2. A young talented OL instead of an older broken down OL. Hoping Allen/Newton can make it back from injuries. You really think BOB said Give Newton his extension, oro out and get me Jeff Allen? I do believe BOB and Smitty were in agreement on adding speed to the offense last draft. BOB may have some input when it comes to the draft but final say is Smitty's with McNair's approval.
Absolutely think bob wanted Allen. He wanted to get away from the zone type blockers and get nasty guys, which Allen had the rep for
I mean, they aren't going to be old now though. The center Nick Martin is going to be 24, one of the guards will be Greg Mancz who will be 25, the RT will be a rookie, the other guard is either XSF who will be 26 or Jeff Allen who will be 27.....The only old guy is Duane Brown.
I misspoke, I should've said the OL is injury prone and depth needs to be added. An OL of Brown/Mancz/Martin/Dawkins/Robinson is young and has the talent to match any team in the league. Then you've got Allen/XSF in reserve, this way if injuries occur again this yr the team is covered. This is XSF's contract yr so I expect hin to be really good. Mancz vs XSF for the LG job. Let the best man win.
i truly believe that too. but the weird part, allen came from a zone scheme. Allen looked lost in Brady's offense I mean B.O.B's. I love zone, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
A few people I like/trust think Allen is due a bounce-back year; not only was he in a new system but played on the right side for the first time in his career.
That would be very good if true. I think Mancz has one guard spot on lock, if Allen can step up and lock down the other it would leave only RT as a weakness.
I can buy that Allen will be better. XSF? Not so much. Mancz is a little bigger than I thought, so maybe he can play guard after all.
I could see XSF coming around, he's already a very good run blocker, if he manages to improve as a pass blocker than he'd be set. He's clearly got the physical tools, so he's not limited there. I think it's a matter of coaching him up.
Saw AP training at Memorial Park last week. He also co-owns that gym off I-10 and Shepherd and has mentioned the Texans as a landing spot. Would he be willing to take RB2 money to come here? $3M? Is that a good idea? Would McNair accept him, given those legal incidents?
I like both Dawkins/Bolles a lot. Maybe you're right in games 1-4, but by games 10-16 you've got two studs for years to come.
