9-26 Jaime Garcia, LHP vs. Wandy Rodriguez, LHP 7:05 on FSH 9-27 Jake Westbrook, RHP vs. Henry Sosa, RHP 7:05 on FSH 9-28 Chris Carpenter, RHP vs. Brett Myers, RHP 7:05 on FSH/ESPN2 9-29 All Astros fans are put out of their misery for at least a few more months. As an added note, this may be the most disgusting thing ever. We can beat the Cardinals and help the Braves, or if we lose it helps the Cards. What a horrid position to be in...
I hate the Braves more than any team in baseball, but I'd still prefer we sweep the Cardinals and keep them out of the playoffs, because we aren't playing the Braves. I'll let the Phillies/Brewers/DBacks take care of the Braves.
Don't worry Astros fans, all this will feel better in a few short months when we get the very first pick of the MLB draft. The thought of waiting two or three years for this Great Savior to arrive on the ML roster will make next season's 90+ losses more palatable, too. But hey! at least we're not mediocre.
I'm supposed to be brought to Wednesday's game. My first game since the end of June. It's a bad season, but I'm still excited about it.
I'd like to see the Braves miss the playoffs entirely because they didnt offer their best prospects for Pence and then contended their offer was better than the Phillies. NO, I want the Braves to pay dearly for their short sighted offering.
Every franchise has gone through this, tough times but it won't stay this way forever. People bring up the Pirates, Royals and Rays as why not to rebuild but those clubs had massive payroll limitations and horrible management. We get the right people in place and the owner commits to rebuild from the inside out...we will be competitive in 3 years.
I <3 the Astros but I also <3 Berkman. And the Cards are my favorite team in the Central behind the Astros. SO WITH THAT SAID. GRATS TO WHOEVER WINS!
I'd rather see Berkman get a chance in the playoffs than Bourn................... But I'd prefer a W.
As difficult as that Mets' loss must have been to the Cards, a loss tonight might be worse. Nice job Stros, pretty sure Braves assumed they needed a sweep to hold on to their WC spot.
Good old Punto. The Twins tried for years to get him to stop diving into first base and run through the base instead. He cost them a run.
Puma has always been a clutch player...that was a HUGE hit. I still remember the slam he hit off the Cards in 2006 during the magical 4 game series that got us back in the race.
Schafer did it the other day and Pedroia did it last night. It's amazing to see in a sport with so much advanced data available. Still a lot of old-school thinking remains. That should be pretty much eradicated in another 20 years or so, if not sooner.
I asked Dierker via an email once when he was announcing about sliding into first and he said the Astros were fining their minor leaguers if they did it. He also said the only reasonable answer he got regarding sliding into first was that sometimes the runner felt their steps were off and they'd have to adjust their stride in order to hit the base right. They felt they would be better off sliding.
OK, that was funny. Dotel bumbling all over the place. Maybe the only nice thing about being irrelevant like us is that we don't have to feel like Cardinals fans right now.
