A great question to ask if you're a potential next head coach at UT. I think we all remember Fran at Alabama while they were under probation.
One would think the Bush stuff is about to hit as well as the LandRover deal and once that stuff comes out, it's a slow bleed of info about street agents and payoffs. If I were a 2010 USC recruit, I'd jump ship now.
I'm actually surprised that Pete Caroll wants to leave USC. He has enjoyed tremendous success there. He must really miss the pro football or something at SC really pissed him off. Terrible loss for college football, for sure. I doubt he'll have the same success with the Seahawks...
So THAT's why they were in such a hurry to fire Mora. Makes sense for Carroll. He's been mulling going pro for years and now's a good a time as any -- program has hit a down cycle, allegations and sanctions up the wazoo, etc. I actually think he's the type of guy that could succeed in the NFL if given some time. He has groomed many players into successful professionals during his college career.
I guess it was inevitable. Any coach successful enough to put together such a run at USC must have the drive to win at the highest level. It's pretty much wired into their brain. That said, when was the last time a top-notch college coach succeeded in the NFL? Carroll will likely do better than his predecessors, given his previous tenure with the Patriots. But what is Seattle thinking giving him full power over everything!?
