So my parents told me they would send me and 2 friends to any destination this summer for a week or two. I would really like to visit either New York or California, because I've never been to either and it's always been my dream to go.

    On one hand, California has
    beaches
beautiful scenery (I would die of happiness if I could visit Steinbeck country) lots of bands I would like to see
the glitz and glamour and stuff

New York is of course a metropolitan dream (I adore big cities) and I love Broadway and off-broadway shows, and of course there's an off chance I could run into my idol/dream man/future husband Conan O'Brien.

Argh, I guess I don't have to make a decision extremely hastily, but any thoughts on why a certain state is better to vacation to? We'd pretty much be free to go wherever, as long as it's not terribly expensive, or dangerous.

NYC... much more to do in much less of space. by that i mean, less travel, more stuff to do. in cali, you got to go from disneyland, to six flags, to universal studios, the gay street in sanfran, all that stuff is far away from each other

i went to nyc this past summer, one of the best places...

Actually NYC has more diverse set of bands throughout the year. I normally plan my trips to NYC throughout the year, based on bands and comedy acts that are playing there at the same time.

Any destination, meaning any in the US?

If not, I say go to Europe for two weeks.

Between NYC and Cali, I'd defenitly go to NYC, especially since you've never been before. Cali is a cool place to live (beaches, great weather, glamorous, etc.), but for a week vacation, I'd pick NYC for sure.

I've been to Europe numerous times. If I could go ANYWHERE it would be China, but I'm trying to keep this relatively inexpensive for ol' mom and pop.

Yep I have no particular good impression of NYC. The only time I'd consider to go there is to watch US Open.

The thing is I would love to go to San Francisco. And Anaheim (holy crap I'd love to see the Angels) and Monterey and etc etc. It may be really spread out. But it's over two weeks... I don't know. New York, man, it has Conan though.

    I hate NYC.

But I'd say it's a great place to visit. Gotta go sometime, may as well be a visit rather than a "I hafta go work/live there" ! Plus it definitely has some things everyone has to see once.

Additionally, if you get 2 weeks, you could rent a car and drive (or take a $35 roundtrip Chinatown bus) somewhere. Such as Boston or Washington DC (buses) or drive to Philly, mountains in Vermont/New Hampshire, whatever.

No interest in NYC... I'd go visit Cali in a heartbeat, though.

I've been to both on vacation, and New York was a blast from beginning to end. The subways are your friend.

    :)

When I've been in L.A. and San Fransisco, there was a lot of sitting in traffic and driving far away. They were fun, but nothing on New York.
