Remains to be seen about Light and L but Willem Dafoe was perfect casting. Hell they really didn't need CG just out some white face paint on and he's good to go
It's like casting Dafoe was enough, in their minds, to disregard the castings of L and Light. Light is supposed to be this genius-level intellectual who basically believes he's God, the more he uses the DN. In the trailer, he's portrayed as this angsty, frosted tips looking teen who keeps getting bullied, and probably decides to fight crime because of it. Like, wtf? And L seems wrongly cast, as well. L is supposed to be a socially awkward genius-level intellected, but it looks like they decided to go with some WatchDogs looking outfit, and ends up looking like some two-bit hacker. tl;dr? They went from genius v genius to angsty teen v hacker. I highly doubt the kid portraying Light can pull off the emotions that come with being morally corrupt. And I highly doubt the kid portraying L can pull off the social awkwardness of L. This feels like this:
Yeah. Not liking the castings for Light and L. Granted, it's been over 10 years since I watched it. But I remember Light being more arrogant, star student with a God complex type sociopath. Not some high school nobody. And L as a smart, calculating emotionless detective. I don't remember him raising his voice or having much expression.
I'm not an anime nerd. I'm not too critical of adaptations as long as it works and the trailer hooked me in. It did just that and it's on netflix so I don't have to go to a damn theater to pay to see it. I'm okay with this. I saw an Asian guy in the trailer is it's okay man. plus it's on streaming. Not a big deal.
I dunno. I always saw light as just an narcissistic and angsty teen. The girl however seems way too sane. She was batshit in the anime. Seems like they want to portray her as more of a partner than someone who Light manipulates.
When someone sends you a threatening note, not because of who you are, but for different reasons altogether...
Its out on Netflix today. Just watched it and it wasn't bad but wasn't good either. Felt like they deviated too much from the source material and would've been better served as an 8-10 episode live action series.
