It's that time of the year. Let's get your favorite Astros to San Diego for the All Star Game. Vote for Altuve, Correa, Rasmus, and Springer (he needs the most votes to catch up). Here are the first released results: Jose Altuve - No. 1 second baseman Colby Rasmus - No. 13 outfielder Carlos Correa - No. 4 shortstop http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/71199/mlb-releases-first-al-all-star-balloting-update Here is where you vote: https://securea.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2016/ballot.jsp?tcid=EngRD-ballot-2016 You can vote 5 times a day, 35 times total per email address I believe. Go Stros!
Altuve, Springer and Harris should make the team, the last 2 assuming that their performance holds through the break.
He deserves to be a reserve if his performance holds, fan voting has nothing to do with that. Also, and I'm just saying, Jason Castro is (min 125 PAs) 3rd in OPS. He is 2nd in WAR and 3rd in DWAR.
Sure, really good players all have their hot streaks but what Springer is doing for us the past couple weeks has been nothing short of amazing. Offense and defense, he does it all. Definitely deserves to be at the big show.
Springer was on track to be a reserve all-star last year, but his injury prevented it. He's actually better this year than he was at that point last year... so yeah, he's right there.
Springer leads the AL in WAR and ain't even top 15 in fan voting? He also happens to be one of the most entertaining players to watch. What a joke.
While making several highlight reel plays already this year, I can't think of one miscue he's had all year. There was the one he lost in the lights, but I'm not pinning that on him. That throw he made last night to nail Weeks should be featured on Sports Science. Amazing.
How many SS's do they take in an All Star game? Right now both Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado (Just noticed they have him listed at 3rd, NM) are having a much better season than Correa. Troy Tulowitzki has no business being in the top 4 at all. And the Omar Infante train is rolling again. Royal fans are seriously ruining the voting process. Needs to be changed.
That's what I'm saying. He doesn't waste steps, takes amazingly proper routes to balls and he doesn't try and throw it 110mph (cough, Jake, Carlos, cough) so he's accurate almost every time. Like you said, his body positioning on that throw last night should be taught to every OFer in baseball.
An interesting quirk of the ballot could work in Correa's favor. Boegarts is gonna win the vote (deservingly so) and Manny Machado has been equally awesome. But he's on the ballot as a 3B, and he has a good chance of winning that vote to start at 3rd despite actually playing SS now. They will take another SS, so the backup spot is up for grabs. The only AL SS having a decidedly better year is Eduardo Nunez, and given his career track record I could easily see him coming back down to earth and Correa overtaking him. Good chance Altuve, Springer and Correa all go IMO. That's of course assuming Correa returns back to the level we saw prior to that recent epic slump, which I feel confident will happen.
