I have issues with both Maher and Milo, actually not really with them but the trend of populism and misinformation. These guys are both selling an agenda, Milo seems to revel in the idea of controversial commentary with a focus on the Alt-right talking points. Maher is all about selling his enlightenment on non-religiousness. Neither has any expertise, they are simply commentators. I have little faith in their objectivity to facts/research or societal realities, imo most commentators fall into this category. I think that is fine, everyone should have a voice and an opinion, it should not be stopped at that level, even though they are influential to the masses. However, our current environment globally is deteriorating at various levels due to mass overload of information which is causing fault lines within societies (Truth is now up for debate). Heck, Putin is popular in Russia, he has written the book on populism and misinformation. Everyone seems to using a similar formula, DT won because of it. These two knuckleheads in themselves are not the problem. Problem is how to police the underlying systemic issue of too much information.
The split was already there. Winning the election just distracted everyone from it for a while. Now the dust is settling, and the same old fractures are still there, and it's only going to get worse. Trump has to unite his party if he wants to stand any chance at a re-election bid.

Bill Maher could be an example, but he gets attacked from the left about as much as he does from the right and isn't gay or Jewish(his mother is Jewish so I guess he technically is although raised Roman Catholic and a decidedly outspoken atheist). So in other words your point is complete circular reasoning.
