kinda makes sense because west got stronger which might means warriors might win less games and west got stronger which also means even though we improved, so did the other teams in the conference...

Good thing it's only a projection. Also, they didn't factor in Carmelo Anthony.

... and now this is a Melo thread. For some reason, @jae713 made it a melon thread.

Projections will always be closer to .500 than most fans tend to believe because it incorporates all possibilities, not just one where you assume health. While last year the Warriors won 67 games, the Cavs only won 50 and who thought going in they couldn't have gotten even 1 seed in the east? Of the Rockets two years ago. Things can and have often gone south for supposed elite teams in the past and will happen again and again in the future. Perhaps the Warriors win 70 next year. But perhaps they get some injuries and precautionary measures and they only win 60 and save for the postseason.

These computer generated win totals aren't so much the most likely win total but rather the average, so great teams will always seem low because, by definition, a team that's defined as "great" likely had things going right for them (like the Rockets last year) than going wrong (the Rockets 2 years ago).

We were 36-16 in the West and 19-11 in the East. If we lose 3–4 more games in a tougher West this season, hopefully, we make it up against a weaker East and not have those Miami and Atlanta type games again.

25-5 If we say we split games against Boston and CLE. The other 3 losses for those "we just didn't have energy" type games.

Well we're not better than the Warriors yet... We're close to their level, but obviously the better team? I don't think so

If every single team tried the whole year and their were no injuries, these projections would be alright. I think with injuries and tanking not being factored in to these projections, that's why the win totals are depressed

Remarkably, the additions of Paul and defensive-minded Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and PJ Tucker mean Houston projects as slightly better defensively (fourth) than offensively (fifth). We'll see if that plays out as projected.

    Most interesting tidbit.

When people comment on actual wins last year, you need to note that these projections likely run several iterations/simulations of a season (in the thousands) to create a standardized bell curve. The "projected" win total is likely the 50% mark on the curve, or the most common outcome received. However, it is possible to underperform or outperfrom projections (in the case of Houston and GS last year). Therefore, while we are projected for 55 wins, we could easily win more or less, but it is a good threshold for our expectations.

These projections are always bearish up top and bullish at the bottom because they don't take into account tanking/resting.
