Okay - you can help put a discussion to rest. My wife and her family have grown up eating mashed potatoes without gravy. They either just eat 'em plain, or with a little salt.

I grew up with gravy. We didn't serve mashed potatoes without gravy - to do so would just be weird.

I told her she's weird. She told me I'm weird. I told her I'd make a poll on the bbs.

How do you feel about mashed potatoes and gravy?

NOTE: We're talking about PLAIN mashed potatoes - no spices, no seasonings, no garlic, etc.

I could go either way on the subject. I guess it kind of depends on what you are eating with the potatoes but I really like gravy. I prefer brown gravy better than cream gravy.

edit: Cream gravy goes on biscuits, not mashed potatoes. Damn RM95, how could you not know that??

I don't eat mashed potatoes - can't stand them, I'll starve before eating them.

A dark brown gravy for me please.

Cream gravy if brown is not available.

What ever you do don't ruin my mashed potatos with cheese.

    Depends.

Regular mashed taters (taters, milk, butter, salt, pepper) served with chicken fried steak or fried chicken = bring on the cream gravy.

More upscale taters (w/ any of the following: dill, rosemary, creme fraiche, goat cheese, garlic) served with, say, a good steak, lamb chop, venison or whatnot = no gravy.

Brown gravy was created in hell by the minions of Satan to be used as a form of neverending torment. It's true.

I can eat them either way. Cheese is fine too. Ever had boiled red potatoes and velveeta? It's the gooeyist **** ever. Twice baked potatoes also rock.

Baked red potatoes with some Mrs. Dash seasoning are very good also. Goes very well with a ribeye.

Are we talking about plain mashed potatoes? Because obviously if it's garlic or rosemarry or something, you don't want to mask that flavor. But plain mashed potatoes, gravy that sh*t up. Brown or cream, it's all good.

    Gravy.

Never been a big baked potato fan. Seems like you spend more time preparing it than eating it.
