Kyrie Irving traded for Isaiah Thomas

This is fair.

 

Told you, Ainge wasn't throwing in another 1st rounder or Brown/Tatum lol...the Cavs had no other deal as good as this one and so little to no leverage. Ainge probably told them "future 2nd rounder and move on or gtfo".

 

By comparison as @Carl Herrera pointed out, Morey got the Minny 2012 2nd round pick as compensation from the 2011 draft day trade for Flynn due to physical. But Minny had their back to the wall, because they already traded Mirotic in the DMo part of that trade, so didn't want to unravel everything.

Morey coaxed them out of a better pick than Cavs just got (due to being more immediate future pick), but he proceeded to waste it in the mid-season trade for 52yr old Camby, tossing it in with Flynn and Thabeet to POR, who used the pick to get Will Barton.

 

Cleveland made out like bandits

 

Personally, i think the trade is good for both teams, fans have the tendecy to fight to decide who's the winner and who's the loser, but in the end not every trade has a winner and a loser, and this is a good example of that, to me at least.

 

Cleveland got a great haul for a guy that was publicly known to want out

 

All Cleveland needs is for IT to give them a good next season. Hope that works out for them.

 

If IT really is significantly injured, then Boston significantly weakened their top rival this year while getting something for an asset with little value. Not sure a top 5 pick and Crowder would have gotten Irving on it's own.

 

One team got a 25 years old all star with two more years on a good contract and the other team got a couple of good pieces for a rebuild and a very good player who's going to aske a max next summer when he'll be basically 30 and coming off from a serious injury.

Yerah, to me it's good for both teams cause one team was looking to get stronger and they got Irving, the other team was looking to stay competitive for a year and rebuild from next summer and they got a replacement for Irving, a good pick with two young players.

 

The Cavs will have to play Derrick Rose as their starting pg for most of the season potentially including the playoffs.
Zizic is nothing special, the Nets pick has minimal chances to ever be half as good as Kyrie and Crowder is just a roleplayer.

The Cetics win this trade for this year for sure, and for the future IF they can convince Irving to resign. But that's not for granted.

 

Rose is a pretty good pg. and cavs give no ***** about season til May. That is a fact. Lebron wouldn't care if cavs were the 8 seed. CUZ they'd still make the finals

 

I'm amazed by everyone focusing on how "the Cavs won the trade". As a trade asset, IT is borderline worthless because he's injured and wants max money next year (which would be a disaster for whoever pays him). The Nets draft pick isn't as valuable because there is a good chance it isn't even in the top 5.

On the other hand, the Celtics get a championship-proven 25 year-old PG locked in for 2 years who may be a top 5 talent in the NBA. Brad Stevens is the kind of coach that can pull Kyrie to another level and teach him how to maximize his teammates.

In a 2-3 years, the consensus on this trade may completely flip. I love it for the Celts. They still have more trade assets than any team in the NBA.

 

Rose is one of the worst starting pgs in the league.

 

Under Phil Jackson and the Knicks yes.... with Lebron he is much better than Deron Williams and a good pg

 

No he was pretty terrible under Thibs too. Lebron needs a pg who can play off ball and shoot or run the offence when he sits and defend. Rose can do nothing of those things and needs the ball in his hands. Also Deron Williams sucks as well.

 

18-4 with Knicks and 16-5 last year with bulls. Decent PG.
