Why didn't he just say no? This is a negotiation, and it always will be. By leaving that door open, he allows himself flexibility. You don't think he'd explore his free agency options in a few years if the Thunder continue down this path of cost-cutting?

The fact that he didn't deny the possibility means he himself is unsure about the future of OKC.

This doesn't mean he won't stay, but it does mean he isn't too optimistic about the possibilities of a championship with this team.

 

Why on earth would he say something like "There is no way I would ever leave OKC"? His best option is to just not talk about it and keep dominating.

Two years from now, if OKC still hasn't won a title and if Westbrook is looking like he'll want out once his contract is up, then it will start to get interesting.

 

He's got three full seasons to play, why would he even think three years ahead?

From basketball standpoint he probably won't have a reason to leave, Westbrook is 24, Ibaka 24, Jackson 23, Lamb 21, Adams 20.
