If JJ signed, I bet that Morey had a Eric Gordon trade lined up.

Lol the point of that post was the top 3 PGs in the league doesn't include CP3 but I still love the trade.

True, but I think JJ would have wanted starter type minutes.

i'm thinking that was option A.

sign JJ to replace gordon as the 3rd guard. then use gordon as part of the melo trade. we would have a 3 guard rotation of cp3/harden/jj and a 3 forward rotation of melo/ariza/luc

JJ will sign with the Rockets after the expiration of the current deal with Phillly. This is about taking him of his family first.

    Book it.

I don't understand why some of you are being up Luc, as he would have signed for the min either way.

    So, your Option A is:

In: Redick and Melo (but no PJ Tucker)
    Out: Gordon and Ryno

    instead of
In: Melo and Tucker (plus keeping Gordon)
    Out: Ryno

J.J. Redick is a true professional & deserves to be treated as such. Changing offers the last minute & viewed as a trade asset, ...

In the end, I'm glad he trusted the process & ended up in Philadelphia, where he is happy.

In all seriousness, I'm more than fine with the alternative/current situation.

I'm conflicted about this. On one hand, I've always thought JJ Redick was an overrated one-trick pony who was useless if his shot wasn't falling.

On the other hand, there are all those titles he won as a Clipper. o_O

As for the 3- vs 4-year offers, who knows if there was ever an official offer for 4 years? There's a big difference between discussions and official offers. It very well might have gone down like this:

    Preliminary feeling-out discussion...
Rox: Hey, JJ, sign with us!
JJ: K, what kind of deal are we talking about?
Rox: Don't know. 3, maybe 4 years. Let's sit down and discuss it.
    JJ: Yes!

    Actual negotiations...
Rox: Okay, we've decided to officially offer you a 3-year contract.
JJ: Nah, I want 4 years. Thx. Bye.

    After the fact whining...
JJ: They said they would give me 4 years, then pulled the rug out from under me at the last possible second. Morey grabbed the contract offer from in front of me and tried to sneak a shorter one in while I was admiring Harden's manly beard.

option A would've given us enough to get melo. option B didn't leave us with enough to get melo.

But Morey would never do your Option A, because Melo isn't worth it. EGo + Ryno for Melo (with no Tucker) is not an Option.

But I could see Ryno for Melo still, and use EGo to get someone else of Tucker's quality. But that means Ryno for Melo is still Option A.

but morey's option A was to sign jj. tucker was option B.

IMO the only reason to sign JJ is to replace ego. i dont see enough minutes in the backcourt to justify the cost of keeping both jj and ego, especially with both coming off the bench.

i think what happened was morey missed out on jj, then took gordon off the table for the knicks, and here we are with a stalemate because the knicks dont think they're getting enough in return.

Morey's Option A is Melo for Ryno. There is no Melo + EGo for Melo (and no Tucker). Had we signed Redick, he'd move EGo for a Tucker-quality player.

Redick isn't worth essentially losing EGo for nothing by packaging him with Ryno for Melo, when that's not a good trade

IMO, you're only considering it because you're afraid Knicks won't budge, and are willing to overpay. Doesn't mean Morey agrees

    Am I missing something?

Sign for 3 years guaranteed contract. Get traded after 6 months, still have guarantees contract.

If you want to stay in Htown, be valuable. Ariza looks like seeing out his contract.

Morey's option B almost always come out better than his option A.

So glad we didn't get JJ reddick.Where oils he even play? Gordon is soo much better than him.

If only he let it drag out until Simmons was renounced by Spurs. I like Tucker but I would have loved Simmons

    @heypartner and @smoothie

Imo, Ryno + Gordon for Melo is too much, and Ryno alone for Melo is not enough. That's why the deal is still stuck. If Morey could find a third team to absorb part of (Ryno + Gordon) value, sending part of it to us and part of it to NY. Then we would get Melo plus someone less than Gordon (Tucker type guy?). And if we signed Reddick, that would all make sense.

But I really don't know how much Morey values Melo.
