    Hi Everyone,

We are wondering if anyone have successfully started a business in selling fireworks so can pick their brain a little bit. My family owns commercial plaza and we have some free space and would like to venture into firework industry.

I was just wondering how does one even get started? How do I import the fireworks from China? What would be my very first step towards this end goal? What would be my first 5 steps towards this end goal? Who can I reach out to / hire for guidance?

    Thanks.

There's explosive growth in that market during some months of the year.

Just like any business venture, especially in this type of business, you have to be careful because it could blow up in your face.

I have a friend who owns 5 or 6 containers. Took them about 2-3 yrs (4-6 seasons) to pay off their overhead and get into the black.

    Things to consider:
Buying the containers 4-5k a piece as I recall
Storing the container somewhere for 10 months
Logistics of hauling container to site/from 4 times a yr
Getting killed for a season if there is a drought/ban and still incurring essential overhead
The time of hiring, firing and operational side--not dealing with America's brightest
Given typical workforce, you are on call at all times 24 hr a day for 5 weeks a year
Cash business so all sorts of theft issues

I was told its a pretty tight industry and best thing is to seek out a mentor. You really would benefit by having a dependable couple people u can pay cash under the table for some of the grunt work. My friend had a part time fire fighter who did a lot of the BS.

I hear there's a lot of racism in the industry, especially toward African Americans. White bros and Asian dudes (of course) can get connected with distributors with very little resistance. But the powers that be don't like black cats.
