According to Ed Werder, Romo is focused on the Houston Texans as his next stop.

Just for my take, I'm all for Romo if the deal is cheap and they still plan to draft someone.

If they sign a guy like Romo that tells me they will cut Osweiler.

Link? Don't see anything about us on Werder's twitter.

Personally I would be excited for Romo, but ONLY if we still draft a QB in the first two rounds. It would be asinine to sign an aging, injury prone player and have no plan for the future.

Romo, Savage, (pick) is the best case scenario for depth chart next year in this instance

would love it, sign him to a incentive-laden contract and let him take advantage of the opportunity. Texans can't waste this current window.

1000% spot on... Gives us a chance to win now and build for the future.

There's no chance that happens. If they cut Osweiler, it costs the team 6 mil more. If they pick up Romo and want to draft someone, they cut Savage.

I suppose Romo could make it happen if he wants to play for a steep discount. I still feel like he wouldn't stay healthy, but if he signs a deal for like 5 mil, I'd be all for letting him play till he gets hurt.

I'd be for this, too. Still highly unlikely that Brock isn't here next season considering the cost of cutting him and that no one would be crazy enough to trade for him.

It would shock me, but if the organization is done with Osweiler they may value the roster spot enough to just kick him to the curb. Let's say for sake of argument they add Romo. They have to have a backup they trust because it's unlikely he stays healthy. If they want a young guy as well, are they really going to get rid of Savage?

Honestly it's just a mess unless they are at least confident in Osweiler as a backup.

That's my basic take. I like Romo the football player but have no faith that he can be healthy. He needs to come cheap if we are adding him and then you hope he can stay healthy enough for whoever is behind him to get comfortable in the system ahead of Brock.

He said it live on Sportscenter. "The team that Romo is focused on is the Houston Texans."

It would be a VERY foolish decision that would cost the team valuable cap space. However it would add evidence that they need to fire the GM and it would be the kind of decision that could actually get him fired.

Anyway, Savage and Weeden are the only 2 QB's that the Texans could cut without serious cap repercussions so IMO those are the only 2 being considered. If the Texans add Romo and draft a QB, you can bet Savage is cut. I mean, Savage cost the team 75k if they cut him (saving 690k over keeping him) and Osweiler costs 25 million if they cut him as opposed to 19 million if they keep him. There's simply no question here.

Weeden costs absolutely nothing to cut him vs 1.6 million to keep him, so between cutting Weeden and Savage, you save the team over 2 mil in cap space.

This is the most likely scenario. It comes down to what the Texans head coach thinks of Savage. I for one do not think that BOB is married in anyway to Savage. They could get Romo or Cutler on a one year deal, keep Osweiler as the #2 QB and still draft a QB if there is one that they really like.

The Texans would never cut Osweiler in order to carry Romo and a rookie. They would take Romo on a cheap, incentive-based contract, ride with Osweiler and Savage as back-ups for this upcoming year, then cut Osweiler and draft a QB the following year.

FWIW, I'm actually quite on board with that line of thinking. We aren't going to be in line to get any of the top 3-4 QBs in this draft at 25 anyways, so we might as well "kick the can" once again, except this time it's with a proven veteran who CAN get us to the Promised Land, if healthy.

I think we draft a QB this year, regardless of signing Romo or not.

I have been on the draft a QB only train this whole time, but no one mentioned Romo playing for cheap/back-loaded/incentive based contract. If he is down to do that, I'm all for it. Still think we draft a QB but I would be ok with a 2nd rounder instead of 1st. Drop Weeden and Savage, Osweiler is backup unless draftee kicks butt in training. Can't see an issue there.

If we get a shot at Romo, you have to take it. If he stays healthy we're immediately one of the most feared teams in football. A realistic shot at winning it all. The guy, when healthy, is an elite QB. Plus, what would be sweeter than Dak getting exposed next year and us winning it all with Tony?
