Liberals feel that criticism in the form of right wing criticism would isolate the secular law abiding Muslim in the United States. Right wing criticism is not truly criticism but rather disparaging volatile remarks that pose no semblance of an actual solution. Liberals are split on how to deal with criticism of Islam. However, don't be fooled into believing that liberals don't. Plenty of liberals criticize Islam. It's just they have to walk the fine line between criticism of the ideology and bigotry of individual Muslims who do not deserve harsh language placed upon them.
I'm not sure what this has to do with liberal or conservative. If there's one thing I would think everyone would agree on, it would be that there is no excuse for what these extremist terrorists have done. They are idiots. This does bring up a dilemma within myself though. I understand that most Muslims condemn this action, and Imams have already spoken out against and called the journalists that died Martyrs for freedom. It isn't a case of moderates speaking out against these extremist terrorists, because they have done so already and done it many times. But there is a battle for Islam going on, at least to the outside. The extremists are fighting to make Islam in their vision, and moderates are trying to live the religion according to their own understanding. I don't like the idea of moderates or anyone making a show of how they practice their religion, but part of me wants the peaceful Muslims to make a show, and get their version out into the media, because the extremists are certainly getting their version out there. So my question is if moderates should do more to publicize their way of practicing, or not. I don't know. I just don't like the idea of making a show of how anyone of any religion practices it. But I can see the good that might come from it in this case. In the long run, I guess they should still practice it not for show, but to their own understanding. Maybe the media can help a little and make a bigger deal out of the moderate practices used by most Muslims?

In reality, they were pursuing the same goal as the murderers, just with different means. How is this "Liberal versus Conservative?" A former Vietnam War protester, a liberal who voted for George McGovern and against Dick Nixon, started this thread. In attempting to shove people in one corner or another by nonsensical attempts to promote a political agenda, we become weaker, not stronger. That plays right into the hands of those intent on destroying our way of life. It strengthens the war these madmen are waging against the democratic values so many of us hold dear. In my humble opinion.

It's not about "these" people. Obviously, all muslim terrorists have no place in this world. We are talking about the ideology itself that keeps striking fervor and hatred in the hearts of those liable to be brainwashed. They want to strike fear in the hearts of anyone who thinks differently. Until the moderates do the due diligence to change the scriptures and words that allow Islamic terrorists to thrive, this cycle of crap is NEVER going to end. Let's stop saying the obvious. Terrorists are bad. Killing is bad. We KNOW that. Let's look at the root cause for WHY this is happening all over the world, wherever Muslims are.
