    Misery loves company.

If instead of being all hurt that your guy Lin isn't the focus of this team, why not try to simply enjoy watching him play on what many people feel is a potential contender? This is shaping up to be a really exciting and special season for the Rockets.

Isn't it more fun for you to see your favorite player contribute to a winning effort than to watch him accumulate an asterisked set of stats for a bottom dweller?

Would you rather see Lin put up bigger numbers for a lottery team, only to say "man, wouldn't it be awesome if Lin played for a great team like, like, the Rockets!?"

I would like to see him contributing to a winning Rockets. The arguement here is that his fans, I as one of them, believe that he could contribute more, and the team performance could better optimized if he and other players are used more reasonably. Take out the emotion, it is an argument about what is the best for the team. Perhaps, no one is 100% right, but if people could just respect, and listen to each other, it will be more productive.

According to these advanced stats, here are 20 candidates for 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and the All-Defense teams.

    2nd

OMER ASIK, ROCKETS CENTER, +310.64: Asik, who has the NBA's second-best defensive RAPM (+4.9), is showing the world that he is worth every penny of that 3-year, $25 million contract he signed with the Rockets last summer. Asik may be able to win both the DPOY and Most Improved awards after seeing his minutes double to 30 minutes per game this year.

    4th

DWIGHT HOWARD, LAKERS CENTER, +293.31: Even though his back and his shoulder and his new team have messed with his defensive numbers, Howard's +4.4 defensive RAPM and 1494 minutes played have been enough to make the three-time Defensive Player of the Year a DPOY candidate again.

    19th

JEREMY LIN, ROCKETS POINT GUARD, +137.05: With James Harden taking the bigger offensive load, Lin's D has been key in giving Houston a PG who provides high-pressure defense at all times, ranking second in steals. His court IQ and quickness are some of the most underrated aspects of Lin's overall game.

Crazy thing is, Howard and Lin are both recovered from injury last season.

I certainly have no problem with opinions which are respectfully presented, or with civilized debate. When second guessing devolves into name calling, conspiracy theories, accusations, blame, or outright rudeness, any message that you might have hoped to convey is lost.

My take on this thread's topic is that as much as a Howard-Lin combo might possibly be deadly, the real on court focus is now Howard-Harden, and how everyone else can support making that core be successful. So far, we seem to have the potential for some really exciting basketball this season. The players trust coach McHale, so I trust that he's doing all the right things to take this team as deep into post-season play as possible.

    Awesome team, awesome potential!

Can you really say that you're not enjoying Rockets basketball right now?

I don't understand those rankings. It seems to be based on RAPM. But it lists Stephen Curry as a defensive candidate who has a -0.5 defensive RAPM which puts him in the 40th percentile among players playing at least 5000 possessions. Jeremy Lin's defensive RAPM is listed as -0.2, which is 46th percentile.

could be better! Last night, even Mchale said that the ball got sticky, and there was a problem in offense flow, so let's see what happens in next game. I am not here to argue. If I said anything, it was because I try to contribute to peace :)

Of course, but the problem is, with Lin out of the starting lineup, the offense was ugly to watch. Messing up a very good thing, that's what's most annoying about this arbitrary fail.

Rockets’ offensive rhythm returns day after sluggish showing in season opener: Coach Kevin McHale and the Rock... http://t.co/yS2ZHxfJHB

Kinda funny how certain players don't practice now all of a sudden the offense back running right????? we'll duhhhh Mchale you had one of the best offenses in the league last year the real run and gun the league al talked about teams could hang with that, our disadvantage was defense when asik was out the game, u signed HOWARD that fixed that problem !! If the offense wasn't broke why fix it ??!!!! It was only going to get better this year having a center that could catch the passes

You meant when Harden off the floor?

    Hardly.

If you watch the highlight of the game, you see Harden has the ball 99% of the time.

This is what Howard was looking forward to, that's where the statements came from that he is not happy. Remember teams tried to talk about harden and he is the main reason not to go to Houston because of his iso play and how it is like Kobe's. He came and is now seeing rockets don't have a pg it's Harden who plays 38mins a game-

Yes, it's unfortunate that some idiot comes up with this aberration.

They looked good tonight, takes time to build chemistry hopefully they can build off it, would be another good weapon for the team to have on offense
