    Loser

edit: He isn't worth $14M and he sure as hell isn't worth $16M. I'm glad the Astros passed. They seem to have several irons in the fire and will pull something off, plus they can also try to swing a deal mid season if they have to.

Agent: Pettitte signs one-year deal with Yankees

    By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ
    Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

Andy Pettitte has chosen to re-sign with the New York Yankees, reaching a one-year $16 million deal with a player option for another $16 million in 2008.
If he gets hurt, he won’t take his option.

“I had offered the Astros $14 million and an option,” Randy Hendricks said. “But they wouldn’t take it. Both teams know that if Andy gets hurt, he won’t take the option. The Astros flat turned me down.”

The deal is pending a physical. It won’t be announced until after the physical.

“We’re not even going to have a physical for 10 days,” Hendricks said. “We’re just announcing this because we know it won’t stay private for 10 days.”

The Astros could be not be reached for comment.

    DUMB ASSTROS

You must sign Andy to get Roger now unless we go after one of the few remaining free agent staters left ie. Zito than we will have to give up something in a trade in order to get starting pitching.

The problem now is that if we have to trade to get a starter, we'll be losing out on some young arms too...so those will be additional holes we'll have to fill.

    FOCK!

I'm not a huge fan of paying Lee $16M either.

Terrible news. And worse if it means Roger doesn't return. We could get by without one of those arms, but not both.

Andy Pettitte is a solid pitcher, but shelling out $14 million for a pitcher at his age with his elbow is not prudent.

Roger Clemens is 44 years old. He has proven himself to be quite capable of breaking down. He missed 3 starts in a HALF season last year. At 44, nobody knows when the wheels will fall off. I do not understand why some people are so dead set on doing anything that it takes to get Roger.

I have loved watching him pitch here...but all good things must come to an end and it isn't the end of the world that we won't have a 44 year old starter.
