Defense in the 1980s and early 90s were overrated; Therefore so are the players

In what world is this described as "defense"?

    How about this?

    Or this?

Now in a era where the three point shot is so important, you'd expect the league's PPG to be skyhigh.
How about we take a look at the "Most HYPED-UP" NBA Defensive Team of all time and compare them to the work team last season.

Lets all be real here, Larry Bird would be reverted to a Kyle Korver/Chandler Parsons hybrid if he played in today's league; Michael Jordan in the 80s would be nothing more than a less skilled Dwayne Wade; Charles Barkley would be a energetic role player; Magic would be Magic; Hakeem would be Hakeem.

Tony Allen would make Michael Jordan his b****.

Exactly. So tired of these comparisons. Pretty much all of the "HOFers" and All time greats would struggle in todays complex NBA. I don't know why ppl keep arguing that MJ is the GOAT when he basically just had a few moves that he did over and over again. Hakeem would be a Lopez brother at best in this league.

You guys are producing some great arguments on how the Pistons' defense is better than the Bucks of today.

    Totally agree.

Parsons would make Bird his b**** and Grant Hill owns Ahmad Rashad.

Clutch has the RightToCensor a troll, troll being the label you obviously deserve. Tell you what. Go on craigslist and find a used time machine (I saw the classic "H. G. Wells" model for $19.95 being sold by a dude in Tulsa. What a deal!), then travel back to the 1980's and '90's and watch some NBA basketball. A LOT of NBA basketball. After changing your pants, come back and see us. Better yet, don't come back and see us. Thanks in advance.

Sure today's nba possess more athleticism overall. 80s 90s had more players with mental strength to not have to look like idiots ****ing flopping (Lebron, Paul, etc), had more fast paced game which required more stamina (Lebron would call time out and cramp out by half time), they played a more in your face defense in the 90s as well. Today's nba they've gotten lazy on the defensive side and usually want to make more plays offensively (harden etc literally nearly everyone).

Many other factors as well. Just stupid to call MJ a skipped wade. Wade will never be on the level Jordan was mentally or physically.

Nothing compared to 90s basketball. Simply the greatest series ever. To top it off they even made a highly successful movie.. Called Space jam. Shows you how much love MJ and basketball had.

Today's complex schemes are only necessary because they took away many of the defensive tools like aggressive hand checking, illegal 3s defense rule, and softened the foul calls.

You did not need the complex defenses of today because a Guard would get clobbered any time they even tried to drive into the lane and jump shooters could be hand checked while going up.

Just because today's defensive schemes are more complex does NOT make them better, just different.

Think of it like Boxing... if I take away your ability to put your hands up, then you're going to rely exclusively on head weaving and footwork to avoid being hit. Sure, your footwork and head weaving gets better, but it doesn't mean you're a better boxer. It just means your style has changed because you had one of your primary defensive tools taken away.

In the NBA of the 80's and 90's, most of today's guards wouldn't be all stars and maybe not even rotation players. That's not to say that guys like Steph Curry and Russell Westbrook aren't talented players, it's just that their games are very much tailored towards today's rules... rules which heavily favor offense over defense.

Maybe you should view more of those old-school games before you talk about them. Today's game is much less physical and the rules are much softer than they were in years gone by.

    Troll

    Or you're a moron.

    Or a LeBron fan boy

Btw league averages don't mean ****. All that matters is the playoff gauntlet that Bird had to go through each year to win a title
