Since they kindly volunteered themselves to become the lab rats then there is nothing to be said.

I have very limited sympathy for what is going to happen in Sweden.
Because it seems that exceptionalism and arrogance is not only in the leadership but also the people.
    Hybris and nemesis.
They think they are better and different than everyone else even their scadinavian cousins.

What's so idiotic is that if COVID does kill less than the flu, it's because of all the steps and sacrifices people made to contain it.

This virus may be turning into a total flop. Hospital capacity does not seem to be a widespread problem. The forecast models for deaths are being revised sharply downwards. Instead of "flattening the curve", we "flattened the economy". And yes, the forecast models already assumed a lockdown. This is what happens when you listen to media hysteria and put doctors/scientists in charge - they have zero risk tolerance. The objective seems to be "not get anybody sick". Which is absurd.

Tell that to the families of the almost 20k people that have already died.

The virus is not going away anytime soon and those new projections will be revised upwards again if you reopen the economy, particularly without pervasive testing being in place.

Didn't Sweden based it's soft approach on a virologist there? Tell you there are various opinion on policy even among experts in the very field of virus. The people really doesn't have a choice, right? I have sympathy for those that didn't have any choice but are forced to run through this experiment.

    Still early, but Sweden:
    - Stock market dropped 32% from peak earlier this year; not so different from other advanced economies
    - Rise in unemployment is roughly same as other advanced economies
    - GDP is expected to contract 3.4% in 2020 (vs expected 5.5% decline in euro zone vs 2.9% in US)
    - Issued crisis pkg for jobs and small busn

So, overall, what economic benefits are they exactly gaining vs other nations that went with tight control? There is already indication that they will tighten up... but we'll see.

Here in American, some people have now moved from Phase 1 it's a hoax to now Phase 2 version of it's a hoax! They want to re-open back without any solid plan to mitigate or contain. Never mind that we now know that this virus is more deadlier and spread even faster than we thought back in early Feb.

I think these people and vaxxers need to agree to some form of contract stipulated in public record that they can do whatever the f they want, provided they waive the safety net given to people who are doing this in good faith. So if they get sick, they're last in line. The kids that got sick from them, first in line, maybe on their dime.

Would really put numbers and "beliefs" into a quantifiable state.

They might even be right when it's all said and done.

Insensitive to say, but many would have died anyway, because anybody who dies that also has corona gets coded as a corona death. Very misleading, as they could have died from something else.

Why not wreck the economy for the flu and pneumonia, which kill about 50-60k each year in the US? Heart disease that kills 600,000+ each year?

Economy is big guys' game. Big guys in this world such as USA, China, Japan, India, UK, Germany, France.... all determined to wreck their own economy for this corona-virus, not for flu or heart disease.......why? I do not know the reason but I know they are not dumb on $$$$$$ stuff. They do not suddenly decide it is fun to lose money in order to let workers stay at home for months.... There must be something they know but you don't. ...

China knew how bad it was and shut domestic travel to and from wuhan but allowed it internationally to and from wuhan to spread the virus.

The Swedish government refuses to release their "science" to their own scientists - including to the Karolinska Institut which is one of the best medical universities in Europe. Their epidemiologists have been pressuring them for weeks and even wrote open letters.
That should tell you enough about what kind of reliability their "science" has.

And as I said after talking to Swedes, watching for weeks now their media and press, the vast majority of the public itself thinks they are special. When you see your neighbours and cousins die, but think ah we are different we are responsible people who don't need any lockdown then that is hybristic.
They do believe that the virus is real and not a hoax. But they believe they are better than the rest of the world in dealing with it.
Do they have a choice? Whoever was smart enough to hide in their house will survive.

But in general for the people of Sweden I have no sympathy. If they really worried they would have pressured their government to change their route.
But the public opinion is overwhelmingly in favour of the govermental policy.

Thats a very stupid argument to make cos you can say that about any death attributed to a specific cause e.g. anyone that dies of cancer could have potentially still died from any one of numerable other cause including car accident, gunshot, drowning, cardiac arrest and even lightining strike.
Your logic is like someone that got shot but was saved cos he was wearing a vest but then claims that gunshots are non-lethal. First try getting shot without a vest.

We dont shutdown the economy for those diseases cos those numbers are what you get after vaccination.

Without the stay at home and social distancing Covid19 would have a higher death race as the healthcare system would be quickly overwhelmed and we would easily see over 200m infected and 1m+ deaths in a few months. That in of itself would shut down the economy, and worse, could collapse the society.

Stupid comparison - heart disease is not contagious.

Almost ALL of those 20,000 deaths were people with pre-existing, significant health problems. A large majority of those 20,000 deaths were elderly people with pre-existing, significant health problems. Did COVID kill these people? Hard to say. Perhaps it accelerated their death. The mortality rate for human beings has held constant at 100% for millennia.

Meanwhile, over 10 million American families have had a member of the family lose their job because of our self-imposed lockdown. That's millions of people suffering hardship. We need to be mindful of suicides and mental health problems, as well as social unrest and crime if the lockdown continues for too long. Over time, a depressed economy will lead to weaker schools, hospitals, medical research, fewer insured people and less available funds for health care. That, in turn, will lead to far more deaths than COVID.

Wild forecasts and fear were responsible for our nation's overreaction to COVID. It's time to make things right and get this economy roaring again.

    GOOD DAY

    @bigtexxx & @Trader_Jorge

The effort to flatten the curve and the sacrifice made by the country to contain this virus are showing signs of success, and you two idiots are coming back and saying now we should have done nothing????

Do nothing and you have a million deaths. Country comes together to stop that and we get on a path to 60K deaths and you'd think you two knuckleheads would be happy. NOOOO! Instead you complain!

    Still spewing arrant nonsense.

Without the shutdown, what you had in NYC would have been much worse and repeated across all the states. The economy would have collapsed, with the society following shortly after.

We wouldnt have had this issue if Trump hadnt dropped the ball and tried to downplay the virus when he acted earlier to contsain the virus and prepare the healthcare sector to deal with. Till today we still dont have pervasive testing.

The primary person to blame for the current situation is Trump

this is a weird reply, but anyhow I doubt China can stop someone with US passport going back to the US. I remember Trump sent at least two planes to pick them up. Should China stop that? It was your duty to stop the spreading by tighten up your border and DO thecorrect TESTS with WHO test kits. You did not. Still you had only 15 cases... Trump was happy with this. It was a success. I can find Trump bragging about this in videos .. From there on, ..

Now half a million... It is all on you, Trump government.
