Our last president was protecting the country while using tear gas at the border monthly.

The current president is scum for using the same tactic.

It seems like it is a tactic that works non lethally. Throwing rocks is more dangerous in all honesty.

    From that article:

"CBP has not immediately responded to a request for records outlining why tear gas and pepper spray were used in instances recorded since fiscal year 2012. "

    https://www.truthorfiction.com/did-obama-administration-fire-teargas-border-monthly/

What has changed in 2018 is that a militarized force showed up in San Ysidro, California, and fired chemical agents not at the border, but over it into another country's sovereign territory, breaching international law and deliberately hitting unarmed civilians. The move has some precedents, which were at the time widely decried by humanitarian activists and elected officials and widely ignored by everyone else, but nothing paralleling the events of November 25th, 2018 has happened before.

However, those invoking the incidents of 2013 to justify teargas are ignoring what happened just a few months later in the summer of 2014 and again in 2016, when huge numbers of Central American people came, usually on foot, to the United States border over several months to ask for asylum, overwhelming shelters and American border agents who worked to process their claims. There were legitimate criticisms of how those asylum claims were handled (and of the Obama administration's border policies in general), but teargas was not required or used..

It is incredibly sad, yet I get reminded of it more often than I'd like.

Read the article that pointed out my "mis-info". It states "at" the border because they dont know where it was deployed. Nothing I said was false. Thanks for your time.

I don't think that's what he's arguing, I think he's asking what grounds are those economic migrants basing their claims for asylum. Is "my country is poor and I can't find a job" a solid basis for asylum? Is "my country is corrupt and there are gangs" a solid basis for asylum?

I think we cheapen the definition of refugees seeking asylum if we use a definition that could apply to 70+% of the entire world's population.

As I understand it, they are guaranteed a hearing by treaty for whatever reason. There is no provision for denying the hearing because the US official receiving the application doesn't think they'll win.

7-year-old migrant girl taken into Border Patrol custody die last week, of dehydration and exhaustion

Today, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the death

According to CBP records, the girl and her father were taken into custody about 10 p.m. Dec. 6 south of Lordsburg, N.M., as part of a group of 163 people who approached U.S. agents to turn themselves in.

More than eight hours later, the child began having seizures at 6:25 a.m., CBP records show. Emergency responders, who arrived soon after, measured her body temperature at 105.7 degrees, and according to a statement from CBP, she “reportedly had not eaten or consumed water for several days.”

Food and water are typically provided to migrants in Border Patrol custody,
and it wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if the girl received provisions
and a medical exam before the onset of seizures.
The CBP blames the death of the child on her father
