It’s going to very difficult to resign all three bench players. Out of the three, I think Shumpert is the least important. I’m hoping that they can keep Rivers and Faried. They would be my priority with Shumpert being the back up plan if Rivers gets a stupid offer. Maybe Rivers and Faried split the MLE and Shumpert resigns for the vet min?
With hiss current level of play , he's stealing money …. as much as I'd like to have the contract as a tradable asset in the future , he's vastly overpaid at $11m and would be a negative asset on a multi year deal of that value. Now he has been injured pretty much the entire time he's been here and maybe he plays better …. but to keep him next year , he's gonna have to play leaps and bounds better. Current level of play I wouldn't retain him at anything over the vet minimum.
New flash we arent signing any of those guys lol (Faried rivers shump) actually if we signed one it might be rivers that's it. Guys are replaceable. Love em but we gotta cap we gotta stay under.
Yes, given that the team is talented, it is even more of a shame that Tilman refuses to invest in further talent upgrade and uses its draft picks to dump salary instead. One thing to duck the tax when you have a mediocre team (even then, spending picks to do so worsens the team's future prospects), it's another when you have a team that has a chance to contend.
The goal is to win, not to contend. Even if they had, say, a 25% or even a 60% title chance, they should invest resources in upping that chance even by an extra 2 or 3 %. This is what Milwaukee and Philly did at the deadline instead of using 1st rounders to dump salary
Thank you! (As to Shumpert, unless he improves dramatically, we should just let him walk when it's time. Sunk cost.)
No, we traded a first rounder to get a player we can kind of use on an expiring deal, in exchange for removing Brandon Knight's 16m salary off the books next year.
In all honesty , the team is better positioned to improve with Knights expiring contract on the books next year & the picks used to move him than the current state.
We can't do anything about that. The trade deadline has passed at this is the team we have........ and they are 31-10 in about half a season of work. We have Faried, Rivers, Shumpert and House (soon) and we will go to war with them and see what happens.
Yeah.... we get it...... we have gotten the last two months that you have been making this same point.
9 game winning streak, Rockets playing the best basketball in the league while our nemesis is struggling. Are you seriously complaining???
it is not worth. Teams would demand a first round pick if overpaying him. It would get something good in return in December if signing Rivers and Faried.
O yeah that's totally what Tilman was concerned about lol. It's no secret we needed someone like him. "Critics" or no credic's, he will be major in the playoffs once he starts fitting in.
The way Shump is playing he'll be on the Mbah Moute Plan, i.e. sign for minimum one year, outperform his contract, get paid somewhere else the following year.
