Interesting read. The site ranked the best HOF classes, 2017 ranks 10th, 2015 ranks 3rd: http://www.sportsonearth.com/articl...17-inductions?partnerId=ed-11106890-961913903
Any idea who the next Astro will be inducted? I'm thinking Oswalt and Berkman face an uphill battle. Thinking of heading up to NY for Bag's induction ceremony as it may be another 15-20 years before we see another Astro be inducted (Altuve?).
Great read, highly suggest it: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18494331/for-jeff-bagwell-long-wait-deep-wounds-close-hall-fame Favorite quote from Baggy:
Berkman and Oswalt will not make it. I think they'll each top out around 25-30%, and that's being generous. I just don't see them making it, especially when you look at the struggles Walker, Scheffield, Schilling, and Mussina have faced. Our best bets are Altuve and Correa. Part of the reason is because game tape and stats are much more accessible today than they were in the mid-90's, and also because both are generational talents that BBWAA writers seem to swoon over. They both have excellent stories and have really thrived thus far. That said, a HOF career is a long ways away for either player. Just look at Jeff Kent.
Jose Altuve is certainly the most likely. Wagner isn't getting in (and nor should he in IMO, but he's every bit as deserving as any full-time reliever not named Mariano) Berkman & Oswalt are in that group of very good, but they didn't have the longevity to make it. If Berkman had stayed healthy, I think he would have made it in. Roy would have needed another 4-5 years good years after leaving Philly.
Bo Porter should get in because he won an argument with umpires over a rule in which both he and the umpires were so glaringly wrong the umpires were fined and/or suspended.
Bagwell just talked about his PED suspicion on MLB Network. I thought he handled it really well: EDIT: went back and transcribed it Pudge's answer was more vague and open-ended. Obviously there may be some issues with having to answer in his second language, but he didn't address it as head on as Bagwell did: They were each asked, afterwards, if they each thought Bonds and Clemens should be in the HOF. Jeff, Pudge, and Raines each opined that both of them should be in the HOF. I assume people will take that answer as as some sort of admission that Jeff himself used.
Just saw Pedro Gomez on TV. He looks like a muppet. Now back to the regularly scheduled celebration...
