Midrange is a 3 from the baseline.

Tinman keeps spamming the board with the same nonsense. What do you want Ariza and Tucker creating off the dribble? They are role players. Role players shoot 3's

Every year the Rockets lose, and every year posters claim that "MIDRANGE!!" is the answer

    Ever year it is hilarious

    To get ~35 points ...

You have to hit 80% of those 44 free throws.

On the other hand, you’d have to hit 27% of threes to get the same amount of points.

Side note, Robert Horry is the goat

Edit: Just now realizing you were implying mid-range. To get ~35 points ... you’d have to hit 40% of the 44 mid-range shots.

What do midrange shots have to do with free throws?

The league leaders in FTs are over 90%.

The league leaders in midrange shooting are around 50%. That equates to 33% three point shooting.

Who on the Rockets other than Chris Paul shoots anywhere close to 50% from midrange. How many guys on the Rockets shoot at least 33% from the arc?

    Bad arguement.

Say you hit half (22/44) of the mid range. That's 44 points.
    Say you hit 15/44 3 pts. That's 45 pts.

The trick is to find the value based on make probability. That is the reason CP3 shots mid range. High make probability.

This holds true for most the game, and if you are playing catch-up. When you trying to close out a game and your up, just take the highest percentage shot (best open). Keeps the pressure on the other team. Pressure causes mistakes.

Three pointers are harder shots to make
    Especially when you are tired

Agreed. Morey’s strategy works in a vacuum.

Also incorporate more back cuts. Harden had a gorgeous one for an easy bucket.

Ok, but 3 pointers also count 150% of the points midrange shots. So unless you can shoot midrange at 150% of your 3pt percentage then it's less efficient.

    Here's our midrange percentages from this year's playoffs;

    Gordon 26.7%

    Paul 48%

    Harden 32%

    Green 33%

That would have saved the day?

Yes and the two early 3's that Harden hit looked good too. Maybe basing your offensive philosophy on a sample size of 1 or 2 isn't too smart.

BTW, as a Rocket, Harden's career high percentage from midrange is 41.5%.

The hardest is taking into account by the percentage made.

I agree fatigue affects longer shots more. That is another reason to keep mid-range in late game. more predictable.
