Sample size is a bit on the small side, statistically speaking.

That scrub Rudy Gay is in the top seven and has the second highest fg% and efg% amongst that group.

Kobe's reputation as a great clutch shot maker goes back well before the last 3 years, though. Because of the volatility of this type of stat, it would be interesting to see what he did over a wider range of seasons.

    Here we go:

    Code:
    11/12: 1-4
    10/11: 2-4
    09/10: 6-11
    08/09: 1-5
    07/08: 1-3
    06/07: 1-9
    05/06: 3-13
    04/05: 2-7
    03/04: 4-11
    02/03: 1-10
    01/02: 2-4
    00/01: 4-10

Over all these seasons, Kobe's percentage is 30.8%. Frankly, his shooting in the 09/10 and 10/11 seasons look a bit like outliers. Convenient that this article would just so happen to show stats for the last 3 seasons, isn't it? :)

I think Kobe's reputation is also built on "pressure situations". Meaning, situations where there is a lot of pressure to score or it is very difficult to score. That's not always only the last few seconds of the 4th quarter. Sometimes it's key baskets to end a run or even an entire 2nd half. There's also the issue that everyone knows Kobe WILL take the last shot over anyone and everyone where as most players are taking and making much better single covered shots.

It's great to have objective stats like these but sometimes you have to sit back and ask yourself, "are all of these well respected coaches and executives wrong or are we looking at this the wrong way?"

Lebron and Iggy look to be the worst offenders on that list!

haha, I love that it just happens to only be the last 3 seasons. Which happens to include the one crazy year Kobe had.

Why not? We all know impression and reputation aren't always objectively accurate. Kobe has the reputation because he takes the most of these shots. His 09-10 season was crazy great. But there were lots of bad seasons too.

This stats also doesn't tell how a guy makes clutch PLAYS rather than shots. Always taking the shot isn't necessarily the best thing to do for your team. Kobe taking the most shots in those situation could mean that he seldom looks to pass to a teammate who has a better shot than him in those situations.

Craziest part is that he is 2/4 this season (Kobe 1/4).

And Russ 1 for 14. Gotta put the game away before the 5 second mark if you're those Thunder kids.
