Dwight Howard prayed. He needed just one more push, one more reason. He needed a sign.

Howard had a decision to make. Time was running out. He wanted it to feel right. For all the information given him in all those meetings in Los Angeles, all the travails along the way to this moment and all the arguments careening in his head, he just needed something, one last piece of evidence, to be at peace with his choice.

“It was on the Fourth of July,” Howard said. “That’s when I felt it was Houston. I was in Colorado. It seemed like every person that I met was from Houston. It was just so ironic. I’d walk around. Someone would ask for a picture. They’d give me a business card and it would say Houston on it. I was like, “Is everybody in Colorado from Houston right now?’ It was unbelievable.

“I was like, ‘You know what, this has to be from God.’ You pray for things to happen. You pray for signs, for God to show you things. It just seemed like, this was it.”

A day after his decision was final, Howard was as relieved as Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was elated, as content as he could have imagined. The tough part, the decision and the conversations that followed when he told representatives of the Mavericks, Hawks, Warriors and especially the Lakers, was over. The anxiety of his controversial, injury-marred final season in Orlando and frustrating one season in Los Angeles were behind him.

He felt empowered to have made the choice that he considered best for him, rather than to please others. He finally had no second thoughts, no regrets.

Right when I heard Dwight was in Aspen I was very happy.

I go there every year, and the city is full of Houstonians who spend long parts of the summer there. It doesn't surprise me at all that Dwight met so many people from Houston.

Glad he did what's best for himself. He got into alot of mess trying to please others, but its pretty clear that Houston was the best choice for him on a number of levels.

Thank you Jeremy Lin for getting God to tell Dwight to sign with the Rockets!

He's not lying. Every time I've been to Aspen I see people I know from here. It's almost creepy.

Lots of Texans in Colorado in general out and about. Not as strange as when I went to manhattan with my grandfather about 15 years ago and in the middle of 30 rock he ended up meeting one of his old business associates from Ohio.

    Small world.

I was hoping he was going to say:

"Dream, McHale, Clyde....man, those guys were great. But the iPad was really what pushed me over the edge."

It's great to see that he might finally be pleased with everything. He had his own decision to make and it sounds like he's happy with it. Hopefully that translates to a dominant Dwight again. If there was an opportunity for him to become that player again, this is certainly it. I think it's gonna work out quite nicely.

Everywhere I have ever been in Colorado is FULL of Houstonians. That's hilarious that he thought it was a sign from God. I'm a Christian dude, but that's like thinking seeing douchebags on Jersey Shore is a sign.

Good Read. Glad he didn't fold under the pressure and go back to LA because of the backlash. He has a real chance to win here.
