HOUSTON -- Free agent guard Brent Barry told FOX 26 Sports he plans to make a decision on his future later Wednesday but that decision no longer includes the Houston Rockets.

"To put it in basketball terms, the Rockets put on a full court press. But, when it was announced Yao Ming had the injury that made things pretty tough," Barry said. "It didn't cinch the decision because the Rockets have a lot to offer. Yao's injury is a big blow to the team, the city, and the rest of the league for that matter."

Yao has a stress fracture in his left foot and will not play for the rest of the season.

Barry said he spoke several times with Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey and Head Coach Rick Adelman and that the Rockets did everything possible and a little bit more.

"They sent me a box of goodies that included video messages from several of their players and from (former Astros stars) Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio telling me great things about the city and the team," Barry said. "I jokingly said that if Bagwell and Biggio sent me an autographed bat that would cinch the deal."

A 13-year veteran, Barry played with the Spurs the last four years helping them to two NBA Championships. He was averaging 7.3 points and 1.8 assists a game prior to the trade. He has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and the Seattle SuperSonics for five years from 2000-2005.

"Brent was very complimentary," said Daryl Morey, Rockets General Manager. "He didn't get into specifics but told us he was going in a different direction."

The Spurs and the Phoenix Suns appear to be the favorites to sign Barry.

He will regret it in JUne when Yao get all better in less than a month ( after seeing healing evangelist, Benny Hinn). :D

He will regret it when T amc and Yao and bobby J hoist the trophy over their heads....

Looks like the Rockets did everything they could.

With Yao out, do we now have two spots on the roster? Or does Yao still count amongst our 15?

That might be a good thing! Head can play more minutes and Novak also can have some playtime. Actually, Head plays really well recently.

Props to the Rockets for trying. Let him go the Suns or Spurs and never play.

Dissappointing, but it was obviously a strong effort by Daryl. Yao going down was hard to overcome.

Rockets won't be able to win Championship this year with Barry anyway. Next year he's older. So it's no big deal.

Props to Morey once again. The guy knows how to recruit. I don't recall management being this creative in the past. Rashard had nothing but great things to say about our recruiting efforts too. Looking good for future free agents.

That's actually a good news. Considering Daryl's previous interview, it seems that we are looking to next season. So bring in some young talent, Daryl. Develop them so next season we can play our superstar for less minutes just like Spur did to Duncan.
