Is anyone on here freelancing for a living? It can be photography, writing, marketing, or anything else you may do as a freelancer. It has become something that I am striving to achieve. It is a long process to become a freelancer who does well enough to live solely off of your earning, but it is a goal I am heading towards. If there are any out there, how did you get into it? What tips or advice do you have for someone trying to get their career going?
I help on the family business (industrial refrigeration), but my wife and I also have a work at home business which is pretty much based on freelance, independent contracts. We do stuff like: 1. Audio Transcription 2. SEO 3. Real Estate Leasing Lines 4. Article Writing 5. AutoCAD drawings. I like the fact that I'm pretty much in control of my own time during work at home. Also I don't have to commute and when I get tired, I can take a snooze beside my bed which is just like 2 inches away from the computer.
But not forget the hardships of getting clientele when starting from scratch. Everyone dreams of being their own boss or owning their own time, but getting there takes a lot of focus and effort to make it.
My chosen path would be SEO other writing projects. I also want to get into AutoCad in the future. My father-in-law owns an entire computer with the programs and all of the tools to begin learning. He bought it for the younger generation of his family to get into.
For audio transcription, these are pretty much the websites/sources i began at years ago. You'll earn just a few dollars as a novice, but the experience is priceless. https://scribie.com/freelance-transcription#intro https://www.rev.com/freelancers/transcription
Personally I love audio transcription the best, it's like I'm reading a book everyday. The subjects range from religion, science, politics, human resource, law, business, you name it. I pretty much get audio files from all over the world, but mostly from the US (I live outside the States). sometimes I get even audio files from Houston.
does it cost anything to sign up for that first site? meaning is everything you do on that site profit?
Nah, it's free to signup and work, you just need to pass the tests then maintain a score on the work you do, otherwise they deactivate your account.
does passing the tests mean a wpm test, and accuracy test? sorry for all the questions. ive weirdly always somewhat enjoyed. pretty good at it. (although not as good as when i played online games)
The wpm is a factor, but the major determining factor is your accuracy for the test files they give. From what I remember they'll give you some test files to work on (all files are 6 mins in length and you have a max of 2 hours to work on a test file ), if you get a good score on all of those then eventually they'll send you a confirmation that you're good to go. They pay through PayPal.
Does that mean you only get $1 for transcribing a 6 minute audio file? I can't imagine it's worth the trouble unless you can knock a file out in under 10 minutes.
Wow... Audio transcription where have you been all my life. There's no one who can type faster than me. Thanks James.
My sister is a successful romance writer, which is "feelance," if you don't count her agent, her editor, and the guy who does her covers. Me? I sort of lurch around.
Yup, that's why Scribie is just that place where you kind of begin and practice, but eventually once you get the hang of things, that's when you fish for the bigger transcription jobs that pay higher than $1 per 6 minutes.
