Would Stern have let Durant sign with GSW, the best team in the league 1 game away from back to back championships, after blocking Paul's trade for basketball reasons?

Silver does what's politically correct to keep the nba brand safe, but his lack of balls and weasel like demeanor will hurt the league.

Who GAF what we fans think, as long as the owners continue to see their pockets get fat Adam Silver will continue to be the commissioner of the NBA no matter how stupid of decisions he has made. The guy shot the NBA salary cap up in 1 year which allowed GS to sign KD. He also introduced this dumbass lux tax penalty to prevent super teams from forming, how has that worked? Maybe should’ve hard capped every team. His point system, transparency, and video review is also a complete joke that doesn’t work.
    Overall grade:
Trash, at least Stern has the balls to veto trades that he thought would imbalance the competition. Silver is a dumbass clown that continues to allow GS to stack its deck.

Um, Stern couldn't stop players from signing from other teams. The whole lakers-hornets thing was a trade....that's why it was blocked.

How are ppl mad at Adam Silver? Lol that’s crazy. You can’t stop a player from taking a paycut (even tho he wasn’t getting good offers). Everything the Warriors did was within the rules. If you want to blame anything, blame it on the popularity of the NBA. It got the nba huge tv deals that increased the salary cap substantially.

That New Orleans team was owned by the nba at that time. It wasn’t only David Stern that blocked the trade, it was other owners as well.

You can’t block a free agent from signing with another team. It’s the reason free agency was made.

Adam Silver and these current players have ushered in the era where Championships are overrated...

what a load of crap. the media worship championships which is part of the problem. all of these fools who never laced them up go on and on about how many championships x player has or doesn't have. these snowflake players can't stand the idea of their "legacy" not including a championship. i say, let every star player join the worriers on a one-year deal so you get a chip, and you get a chip, and you get a chip so no "star" players with sensitive feelings ever have to go through what barkley, malone, ewing, baylor, etc... have gone through.

So, I will say, in relation to this latest GSW power grab, that Silver/the NBA did speculate during negotiations of the 2016 CBA something like this could happen.

The frustrating bit is why didn’t the NBA/commissioner’s office work harder to prevent a CBA that would basically unstablize the league? This is definitely a black mark on Adam Silver’s resume.

Agreed with the posters that find it strange Silver is being blamed.

Owners / fans / cities didn't force DeMarcus to sign for 5.3; in fact, I'm sure DeMarcus could have gotten a bigger pay day if he waited longer. But because he felt spurned due to bad offers (even though it's still somewhat early in the process), he made a call to GS.

Honestly, I bet he didn't like the fact that he'd only be signing for 5.3. But because it's 1) the only offer he had at the time and 2) the offer was with a team like GS, he took the deal.

You can't fault a guy for signing, of his own free will. And most important, Silver cannot (and should not) block the deal from happening.

Doing so would incur a lot more wrath from everyone. Silver would technically be taking away free will.

on the one hand, i agree that it makes sense to put the opening of free agency at a more reasonable hour. however, as a big nba fan (well, not as much right now), there's something special about waiting until midnight eastern to hear the flurry of news start. the crazier the better AFAIC. now we're gonna have the opening of free agency brought to you by state farm and some overproduced crapfest of analysts trying to professionalize this thing like they do with the lottery.

now that i think about it, the lottery should be at 3 in the morning. after all the hilarious effort to lose while pretending to want to win, what would be a more fitting end to the absurdity than a 3 A.M. slog with adrenaline and coffee fueled executives sweating out the last bit of their tank programs. and televise it with the gm's watching and going crazy as the ping pong balls come out. as each ping pong ball comes out, you remove teams from the board who no longer have a shot at the combination. it would be fantastic watching teams drop off the board and each remaining gm going crazier. with durant on the warriors, this idea is all i have now.
