Jayson Schroeder appears to have made his pro debut in the GCL today. Pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a hit and no Ks.
That certainly doesn't look good for Valdez. Good to see Adcock moving up, though, if he can ever cut down the walks he could really be something.
Unless we actually hear a reason for a Valdez suspension, I wouldn't worry about it. It seems more likely that they don't plan on Cionel pitching in Corpus again.
Deury Carrasco went 2-4 with a solo homer and an RBI triple for the GCL Astros today; the home run was the first of his pro career. Carrasco is slashing .323/.389/.523 with 8 steals so far this season.
Stephen Wrenn hit a HR tonight, his 7th. Considering his injury history and that he is in AA in only his 2nd full pro season, he’s done well. He’s a pretty high upside guy: enough speed for 30+ SB and good CF defense, enough power for 10+ HR. On-base skills will likely always be an issue but I still think he has an outside shot to develop into an everyday CF and a really good chance to end up as a 4th OF.
He put up great numbers in the DSL last season too. Bonus baby, premium position, early signs of elite on-base skills, speed, possible developing power...
Josh James with a bare minimum quality start. He allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out 12 tonight. James now has 128 strikeouts in 80.2 innings this season.
He's started throwing the ball in the mid/upper 90's the last 2 seasons, so yeah he's a guy worth paying attention to these days.
15.6% SwStr% for Josh James as a starter in Fresno this season is really impressive. I think that's better than any of their relievers outside of Deetz.
I think both Deetz and James are gonna be really really good relievers. Insane depth in AAA right now.
