I think something like Joe Musgrove would be a good outcome (~75th percentile outcome) for Dykxhoorn. His K%-BB% are comparable to Musgrove's 2016 AAA #s, although Musgrove was almost half a year younger when he put up those numbers.
He had a double today, so 14 of the 36 hits he's recorded as a professional baseball player have gone for extra bases.
What is the story behind Andy Pineda skipping two levels from TC (batting .167) to CC and now batting over .360 after 12 games?
At first it looked like a typical short term fill-in scenario, and maybe it was at the start. But now it looks like he’s really being given a chance to play there. Per Oz Ocampo (Astros int’l scouting head) Pineda is an elite athlete with 80 grade speed, which should give him a high floor (as a CF and baserunner) and a high ceiling. He is sporting a .483 BABIP so there’s no way his current numbers will hold up. But at only 21, his k/bb numbers aren’t bad so he does have a chance to really put himself on the map. One interesting thing is that so far in Corpus he is 0-3 in steals.
A guy with that kind of speed probably should have a high babip (nowhere near that high). Another highly athletic Astros farmhand!
Osvaldo Duarte went 3-6 with an RBI single and a solo homer (7) for Buies Creek. He's also stolen a base, which gives him 19 in that department.
Speaking of Andy Piñeda, he finally got on the board in the stolen base statistic. He's a much better baserunner than what he's shown in the early going, but he's definitely finding out that AA batteries are a little more adept at catching would-be base stealers.
Didn't see it mentioned, but Framber Valdez has been suspended for "violation of team rules". Could actually be something relatively minor, could be something worse - when Yoanys Quiala got popped for PEDs what he actually was suspended for wasn't announced for a couple of weeks (that may have something to do with an appeals process, dunno). edit after research: Quiala was suspended for a few days for the same "team rules" thing, then pitched in 3 games, then got suspended for PEDs, so I don't know if the 2 suspensions were related at all.
I love this thread. Appreciate everyone’s contributions. I need to get out, take in some minor league games and get more involved in the Astros system. I follow, but not like I want to. I just hit up a couple of minor league games in Indianapolis. Just from the games I saw, I’d say the Astros were/are far more talented than the couple of teams I watched. Thanks again guys
I'll also add: I was wrong about the "team rules" thing, in both cases the reason for the initial suspensions were not (not yet in Valdez's case) made public.
Streak ends at 42.1 scoreless for Sandoval. Pitched a scoreless 6th out of the pen yesterday then got good and blow'd up in the 7th: 1B, 1B, catcher's interference, HBP w/ bases loaded, SF, 2B, GO, BB, 2B, K.
I think I remember James being suspended a few times while he was in Corpus last year. Since these suspensions seem to be only happening in Corpus, I wonder if maybe they're actually just being put on the temporarily inactive list and it gets misclassified on the transaction log.
