LOL Pitcher who threw the last inning for Las Vegas was none other than former Astro 1st rounder Jio Mier. Hard to believe he's only 26.
The best case scenario for the Astros is that they trade him for 19/20 year old lottery ticket. Kemmer would be a cheap MLB option for a team waiting on prospects to develop. Kemmer is blocked in the Astros system. The Astros will either waive him or trade him at some point.
He's the youngest player in the Texas League. I'd love to see Kemmer get a shot with a team like Oakland.
Jason Martin went 4-4 with 2 doubles, a solo homer, and drove in 2 in Corpus Christi's 7-2 win over Frisco last night. Martin now has 13 homers on the year between Corpus (6) and Buies Creek (7).
Lose him in Rule 5 draft or eventually as a minor league free agent. I could part with him for Sonny Gray. We certainly have plenty of guys that deserve an MLB look but need to find it with a different team.
Couple of Fresno arms were just let go. Perez was a 17th-round pick in 2011 out of Fresno City College. He began his pro career as a starter before transitioning to the bullpen in 2014. West was also a 17th-round pick; the Astros got him in 2012 out of Washington. He became a full-time reliever in 2015. He has a career 1.5 BB/9 mark, but has also allowed almost 11 hits per 9 innings.
Hector Perez vs. Myrtle Beach: 5 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K He's the first pitcher in the system to 100 strikeouts this season: 105 in 82 innings.
Bummer about West. I was extremely high on him after 2013 when he had a fantastic k:bb rate and there were reports of him getting up near 100. Not sure if the injury in 2014 was what did him in, but he went to relief after that and never got his k rate back up to where it was in 2013. I won't be shocked to see him resurface with another team.
Brendan McCurry has given up only 1 ER since June 19, with 22 K's in his last 11 IP. Hoping we get to see him in September. In particular, he's had a number of 2-inning outings, which is key in my opinion given that our starters often have difficulty finishing the sixth, and sometimes the fifth, inning. McCurry probably won't get enough innings under his belt to be a viable member of the playoff roster, but he's been very encouraging since coming off his suspension.
So, uh, Fresno scored 19 runs last night after 22 runs the night before. Reed and White both hit #17, Fisher #21 (and went 4 for 6, with 2 doubles. Tucker v1.0 hit #16, and Teoscar Hernandez added 3 doubles.
