I would love to get excited about all these rave reviews, especially about the wide receivers, at training camp; but this guy won't let me.
I'm rooting for Fairbairn, Anderson, and Wendall Williams to make the team. Excited to see these guys play.
your approach to this training camp is all wrong. brock already earned the starting job with his college and denver film. he doesn't have to earn anything, it's his to lose which is also damn near impossible.
Not the same sport, but did you see the Rockets pre-season last year? On the whole, there may not be perfect correlation, but have to assume its better to look good in the preseason than bad.
Training camp is different though. If the offense looks good, does that mean the defense looks bad? And visa versa? I still like reading the recaps, etc. But mainly I just hope no one gets hurt.
Anderson was lined up across from Clowney yesterday and Jadeveon literally bent him back like a pretzel. That dudes got a long way to go. I think Fairbairn gets the job and Wendell Williams is very interesting but still think he gets left off the 53.
I agree. He's not losing it. I'm just saying that if one is playing better than the other, then the better performer should start. That's not to say the starter will keep his job if the other is on a more rapid upward trajectory. Just at this moment in time, the eventual better player might not be better right now. The Texans feel Brock has been improving faster than Savage, and he will be the best QB (if not already) by the start of the season. I'll leave it at that and shift the focus back to camp overall. Regardless, go Brock! I can't wait to see the new speed on offense. Fuller seems to be getting it, Anderson seems like the best TE (with blocking issues), Braxton seems he's a baller, and Wendall Williams seems untouchable on the field. Ervin seems he's a handful as well. Lamar Miller in the backfield, too. Can't wait! I'm most excited about seeing the new and improved Clowney.
I agree, Savage looked like the better of the three last year and got injured. I am afraid he won't get a fair shake this year because of the money unless Brock is terrible and he is flat out ballin'.
To be fair, every tight end short of the elite physical monsters like Gronk get bent like pretzels by Clowney and even the elites like Gronk still usually lose when trying to block Clowney. At best they draw, but usually not. Since he has been injured so often, people forget how fast and strong this guy is. I really hope Fairbairn gets the job as well. Wendell is interesting. I think Anderson is a given personally, given how terrible our TE was last year though whether that was more on Hoyer or the TE's just sucking is anyone's guess.
Personally I am hoping that we cut Griffin for Anderson to clear some money for Hop. If Anderson has a great preseason that will be one of the big cuts IMO. In regards to TE blocking against Clowney. When he was healthy last year, he made some LT look like string beans. I wouldn't worry too much, as I saw a report yesterday that said he looked like he could handle the contact.
I'm rooting for this guy and Fairburn (or however you spell it) more than anyone else to make it. Williams can flat out fly. at worst hes just a returner, i'm ok with that
