Qualls hate is out of control. He's had a few bad outings that have blown up his ERA, but one would think he's Williams out there.
The catcher's glove hardly has to move. Also, Ro Coleman looks like a future Astro given his small stature.
nice inning for Eshelman. Swanson hit it hard against him, but on the other two batters (both Ks), Eshelman was surgical with his command/ball placement. Very impressive.
Through 5 innings, Eshelman has allowed zero runs, struck out 7 and of course walked none. 3 hits. He's been 100% in control of an outstanding Vanderbilt offense. Carson Fulmer has allowed 3 ER in the same time frame to a weaker Fullerton lineup.
His father was shown in the crowd earlier. His name is Cooter Swanson. Could be worse. Dansby is his mother's maiden name.
None of the following players were in the BA Top 500: 4-109: Anthony Hermelyn 5-139: Trent Thornton 6-169: Nestor Muriel 8-229: Garrett Stubbs 9-259: Zac Person 10-289: Scott Weathersby Their realistic expectations prior to the draft would be that they would sign for $100,000 or less. Nestor Muriel has already signed for more than $100,000 ($250,000 but still less than slot). Michael Freeman and Scott Weathersby has also signed underslot. If the remainder of the above sign for $100,000 (which they would be extremely fortunate to do), that would leave a tidy sum for the Astros: 4-109: $522,700 - $100,000 = $422,700 5-139: $391,500 - $100,000 = $291,500 6-169: $43,100 7-199: $119,600 8-229: $176,000 - $100,000 = $76,000 9-259: $164,200 - $100,000 = $64,200 10-289: $148,400 The under slot signings would yield a savings of $1,165,500 The Astros could go over their total slot allotment by $864,460 (5% of $17,289,200) without being penalized. Thus, the Astros have $2,029,960 in fun money to pursue Baker, Sands and Sandoval, assuming that the slot monies for the top three picks can sign the top three picks. Despite his comments, Baker should be in play with this kind of monies.
The team's public comments make it seem like they expect to make a serious run at Sandoval. Is Baker's professional future as a hitter or pitcher? He seems like one of those two-way guys in the AJ Reed mold.
Well don't forget we also need $2,331,400 for Daz if he wants 4 million. I guess you are getting his savings from Bregman, Tucker and the rest of the guys, which might not be that unrealistic.
If Bregman and Tucker sign at their BA Top 500 slots, Bregman has a slot value of $7,420,100, but signs at $5,026,500. This would yield a $2,393,600 savings Tucker has a slot value of $4,188,700, but signs at $3,470,600. This would yield a $718,100 savings. If both do, that is a savings of $3,111,700. Rumor has it that Cameron wants $4,000,000 to sign and has a slot value of $1,668,600. The Astros need to find $2,331,400 in savings to sign Cameron. FWIW Cameron is rated #5 in the BA Top 500. The #5 pick has a slot value of $4,188,700, which is about what he rumored to be asking.
If we do the same thing for Eshelman and Ferrell, we end up saving another $640,000 (Ferrell would be an overslot). If we assume the#5 slot value for Daz, then we would have $3,261,560 to spend on Sandoval/Sands/Baker. That should be enough to get at least 2 of them, unless they really just want to go to college.

Wow, interesting that it happened before Bregman. That is a good indicator for Daz and potentially Sandoval as well.
$4MM. Expected. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">1st-rder Kyle Tucker bonus w/<a href="https://twitter.com/astros">@astros</a> = $4 mil (pick 5 value = $4,188,700). We have saved $500,000 alone from Tucker, Muriel, Freeman, and Weathersby. This is great news and if Daz really agrees to a $4MM bonus we will actually have a shot at Sandoval and possibly even Sands.
I don't think it indicates anything. Daz signing will likely be held up until Bregman signs. Bregman, Eshelman, Ferrell & Person can't sign yet. Seems like they've got verbal or completed deals with the remaining top 10 rounders
