What's the deal with Cameron? We signed him, but 790 said he fell due to some issue about his not playing.
They questioned the ability to sign him and that he might fall (this was during the first few picks of the draft). It wasn't anything about his talent, just some kinda uncertainty regarding his decision to play baseball. Maybe he had pro potential in a different sport. Anyways, it's moot now that he signed. Supposedly, we got a steal @37.
After his HS Junior year, Cameron was being considered as a legitimate potential #1 pick. But after his senior year, there was talk he did not improve enough to lock in the #1 pick. So, his stock dropped to a top 7 pick. But from the sound of things, Cameron told everyone what $$figure would get him signed. It could be that Cameron played it safe so as not to get hurt, and his stock fell. But the talent for a #1 pick was there, he just didn't get over the hump to actually get the #1 spot. So, he knew that 4 million dollars would be fair compensation.
Ah ha !!! Thanks Anything can happen, but getting the #1, #5, and "#1" should boast well for the Stros' future.
We have a signing! Matt Bower, who was drafted in the 23rd round out of Washington State, is now with the Greeneville Astros. Post #424 has been updated.
Did we ever hear if Sandoval was assigned to the GCL? It'd be nice to see him make a start this year, but they probably assigned him to the back fields in Kissimmee.
