Not trying to be controversial, but it depends on the coach. If Team USA were coached by McHale, they would blowout the Spurs by 20+ points a game because he would let them run and jack up any open shot they wanted. If coach k were the coach, it would be closer because he doesn't let the guys play as loose. The spurs have problems with athleticism and speed because they are old as dirt. Hell, the got swept by the rockets during the regular season and we aren't nearly as good as team USA. Team USA would just run the Spurs to death for 48 minutes and the old big 3 would pass out from exhaustion.
I started watching basketball closely in 2000, and since the 2001 Lakers this years Spurs team is probably the best team Ive seen since. Easily the best team of the decade so far.
really? So Miami with Lebron in one of the earlier wins was not the best team of the decade? OK? No way this Spurs team beats any Shaq team nor the '04 Pistons...or all the other teams they lost to. As with each title, the Spurs went through a team with a major injury. I don't think they beat OKC this year with Ibaka at full strength each game. And last year Westbrook was injured. Look back at all their chips. There was a major injury each time, or Staudamire getting suspended and Nash getting a bloody nose. And like Webber going down.
The 2001 Lakers was a buzz saw in the playoffs. Only lost one game in the playoffs where Iverson just went off. Swept the Spurs by an average of 20 points with Duncan, Robinson, and Rose in the middle.
I understand the chemistry but there is no way that Patty Mills or any guard off the bench let alone Tony Parker can contain the guard play of team USA, the reason Spurs won was that Miami had such weak guards and a gimp Wade, also no front court. Guards: Curry (Nearly beat Spurs 2yrs ago on his own), Irving, Rose, Thompson, Harden (known Spurs killer) and this is limited minutes Harden which is his final form. Drummond, Davis, Cousins, Faried... Is this even a contest?
Teams could've or would've beaten this years Spurs in a series: 1999-00 Los Angeles Lakers - better 1999-00 Portland Trailblazers - 7 game series 2003-04 Detroit Pistons - better 2003-04 Los Angeles Lakers - better 2004-05 Phoenix Suns - better 2005-06 Dallas Mavericks - better 2006-07 Phoenix Suns - better 2004-05 Detroit Pistons - better 2007-08 Boston Celtics - better 2007-10 Los Angeles Lakers (Two-time championship team) - better 2008-09 Houston Rockets-healthy (not being homer) - 7 game series 2010-11 Dallas Mavericks -7 game series 2011-12 Oklahoma City Thunder - better 2011-13 Miami Heat - better
Exactly! Against an older Tim Duncan, Splitter, and Bonner. This forum is being silly. The Spurs bench would get thrashed, as well.
The Spurs win in 4 because they play the RIGHT WAY. Team USA is all about Heroball and individual statistics. Did you see how big KI smiled when he won MVP? Mission accomplished. The Spurs just want to win for all the people in San Antonio who they pay tribute to with their hard working approach to the game. Spoiler We need a barf smiley
99 - They were the best team by far...would've beaten Utah or even a Chicago team with MJ. 03 - Dallas lost Nowitzki in WCF. 05 - They were outstanding that year, but they almost lost to a slightly weaker Pistons. The Spurs tended to beat LA in their weaker years (99, 03, 13), but got beaten badly in these seasons (01, 02, 04, 08) The Spurs of the 2010s are actually vulnerable to athletic teams or teams with good frontlines.
Current Team USA with the talent will beat Spurs IF they played together as a team for at least a season. Let's not kid ourselves tho. If team USA, right now, being only 2 months (at most playing together) against the SPURS whose core has been playing for over a decade...if the series ever got to 7 games (i doubt it would even get to 7 games), SPURS would beat them...especially for games where it is tight. They just know there structure, what there roles are, have a better understanding of there team mates, coaches, better understanding of there plays etc...
If you saw Serbia or Lithuania or Slovenia's defense and compare it to the SPURS on the post and the perimeter...it's not even in the same atmosphere.
Is the OP talking about the current Team USA (minus Love, Durant, etc) or a fully stocked Team USA (with Durant, LeBron, etc)? If it's the former, Spurs all day. If it's the latter, TUSA all day.
Of course. By the same token, the Spurs has never seen a team featuring all-stars or all-star caliber players at every position.
Spurs are a great team, but anyone who thinks the spurs will beat team USA is being silly. The only way the spurs win is if they are in some kind of pg-13 underdog movie, where Team USA are the big dogs and the Spurs are a bunch of misfits with a lot of heart. Otherwise, Team USA would thrash team USA (especially in the paint).
