Hope this pushes Deshaun into a more lengthier contract than the 3 year extension he was supposedly pushing for earlier as reported
Hopefully he Texans have an out after three years, so if improvement hasn't happened after seven years the Texans can move on without being in cap hell.
It's advantageous for Watson being on a shorter deal. If management and front office doesn't improve after seven years, Watson can go to a competent organization where he can compete for Super Bowls instead of wasting his career on the Texans.
noticing a trend with your post why are you so bullish on deshaun watson, what more does watson need to show you for you to know he is the guy for the forseeable future with the texans
**** .. Lance Z this morning was making allusions to people being near Deshaun saying he doesnt want to be here long term. Hence the 3 year deal.
If he wants to leave, you don't (I wouldn't) sign a 3-year extension. He has 2 years left on his rookie deal Signs 3-year extension Can franchise tag him ~2 more years after that. Texans could keep him for ~7 more years. He has 2 years left on his rookie deal Doesn't sign an extension Franchise tag him for ~2 years He's "only" here for ~4 years
Caught just the tail end of that after they joked about a 20 year contract ("no way he's here that long" or something like that). Was there more to it than a throw away line? I thought they were just joking around about how badly O'B and Easterby will overreact to the contract and go higher than they need to with D4's contract since they (seemingly) have no concept/regard of value, salary cap, negotiations.
I kind of got the impression it was more than just jokes. Seemed like Lance had some kind of conversations with guys in D4's inner circle and it seemed ominous the way he delivered it. Add to that the context of D4's tweets in response to the Mahomes deal. All we know is Deshaun has positioned himself for only a 3 year deal. Makes you wonder. Spend premium money for 3 years on a guy who doesn't evision himself as a career franchise icon? I dunno.
